Cheers Steve, any idea on the sources for all of them? I have a few here myself, but wouldn't mind being able to track down the others if possible.

Question

Post by tru2gzus »

Okay, I just ran across this interesting item on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/DARK-FANTASY-17-Sta ... dZViewItem

Does anyone know what this may be? I thought of buying it if it's rare.

Thanks,
Sean

This is probably more for the marketplace, but, I wondered if it was part of Stan's listings of appearances.

Dark Fantasy was a fanzine first published in 1973. Stan Sakai use to contribute to various fanzines during the early and mid 1970's. This is actually the first time I've heard mention of his inclusion in this particular one. Even though I have aquired a couple of the early fanzine appearences, I have never gotten around to adding them to my on-going bibliography (keep forgetting).

There are a couple pages of Stan's early fanzine work posted on the Dojo web-site here:
http://usagiyojimbo.com/sakai/reallifeart.html

and here:

As far as the Comics Interview #44, it is pretty well known, but I have to admit that the ebay scan there is the worst I've ever seen....

A transcript of the interview can be found here:

Ok, I came across this on Ebay:

NEWTYPE USA magazine September 2003 (Vol. 2, No. 09 - cover price 9.95)

COVER: Mobile Suit Gundam Seed (A Warrior’s Resolve)
DVD: Angelic Layer

Poster: Zaion

Postcards: Ninja Scroll: The Series

Centerfold: All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku DASH!

Manga insert: Angel/Dust

Features: The Twelve Kingdoms, Infinite Ryvius, Sailor Moon, Usagi Yojimbo, [inside] Satelight

Anyone know what the UY appearance is? I did a brief search on UY Dojo, so, Todd, don't get worried that the Dojo isn't useful  I just couldn't find anything and want some expert knowledge put to use! Thanks for the help!

A RABBITS TALE: STAN SAKAI TALKS USAGI YOJIMBO
by JENNIFER CONTINO (NEWTYPE USA, VOLUME 2 #9, SEPTEMBER 2003)

I guess now I can say it was my excuse to put the bibliography back near the top where people won't forget it!! :D

p.s. "a PVC set of figurines, featuring seven different characters" is a quote from Steven Ng as he reviewed the magazine article. Did these figures ever come to light? I guess I'd have bought them by now if they did. So, why didn't they?

Many of the new comics from Dark Horse have an ad for pvc figures from many of their comics. I'm bummed that they didn't do an Usagi set. Anyone have any info on if one is forthcoming? Stan, do you have to request such things or do they come to you about doing them? It'd be nice to see some new figures from UY.
