If you're excited about comics creators and surrounding yourself with other comics fans, I strongly suggest going to any convention other than San Diego. I attended from 2007 to 2011, and while many creators are present, it's difficult to reach them through the sea of Twilight/Big Bang Theory fans. I know it just passed, but WonderCon seems to be a much better show for comics fans in SoCal.
