Jubei wrote:Yeah, my UY collection is more similar to yours, one shelf that is slowly growing. I have the majority of the DH UY trades (all paperback), I'm missing copies of Book 3 and Book 5, the rest of my Fantagraphics copies are paperback as well. I have the two Saga editions so far, the Art of UY book, the Sakai Project, Yokai, 47 Ronin, and the Adventures of Nilson Groundthumper. As for Stan's individual work, I have a copy of his Rocketeer story, his Star Wars variant, and a Grendel trade with his Hunter Rose story.

My UY shelf resides above my shelf devoted to Japanese/samurai history, books ranging from samurai histories to modern books on kenjutsu, kendo, and iaido to manuals on bladesmithing to art books devoted to the beauty and artistry of samurai weapons and armors.

A most impressive collection though Steve, very, very nice. :D
Well, it looks like Fantagraphics is releasing their two-volume special edition as a paperback version that runs about $50 and would include Book 3 and 5: http://amzn.com/1606998870

I've always been interested in Japanese culture, probably because my father lived in Japan a couple years (before I was born) and so we had lots of Japanese art on the walls, would occasionally eat homemade traditional Japanese food with chopsticks, and generally had a bunch of Japanese knickknacks lying around the house. Also growing up, my family was always hosting Japanese exchange students in our home, so there was a lot of fairly direct Japanese influence on me at a young age. In the fifth grade, I was assigned a big project about samurai where I had to do a lot of research. It was during this time of study that I really grew to appreciate the samurai history and older Japanese culture.

Speaking of books, I'm currently reading The Lone Samurai: The Life of Miyamoto Musashi by William Scott Wilson. I knew a little bit about Musashi beforehand and have watched Hiroshi Inagaki's Samurai Trilogy (loosely based on Miyamoto Musashi), so it's been fun learning a more complete story about the man. I only have one other book on the subject of Japan, but I'm keen on exploring more.
Thanks for the link and info. The HC version is out of my price range at the moment so I'll probably pre-order the paperback version here.

Also, thanks for the mention of the Wilson book, I haven't seen that yet so look forward to reading it. I have a copy of Musashi by Yoshikawa, a very interesting tale, I'd gotten perhaps 1/3rd of the way through before being side-tracked so I need to finish it (or at least start over again to finish it  )

@ Steve - ah, Lady Snowblood, my brother has a fondness for that manga (and film too) though I've yet to read it. How are the new larger omnibuses of Lone Wolf? I've been meaning to get them, I have about half of the digest books, which while they are great to read, the smaller print does limit your enjoyment of Kojima's art. (My introduction to Lone Wolf was many moons ago, when I saw and bought #2 of First's Lone Wolf and Cub title with that phenomenal Miller cover of baby Daigoro holding a bloodied sword).

@ maichan - great collection there, but I was wondering, I couldn't quite tell from your photos but you mentioned Moebius, do you have any of his graphic novels released by Marvel's Epic imprint back in the 80s? I still have all six of them, my first real introduction to European art and storytelling.

Short answer.... Yes, I have most of the Epic TPBs.

I think I was first introduced to Moebius back in the 70's through the pages of Heavy Metal magazine. My first real foray into what I would call grown-up comics.

Oh Man. I LOVE Yoshikawa's "Musashi". I have read that thing cover-to-cover at least 4 times. Amazing novel. Sooooo good. I have also read most of "Taiko" but have not finished that one yet. It is on the bedside table.

In my opinion, it does not get better than his "Musashi" for samurai novels.

I didn't know Okko had been translated in english. That's pretty cool.
Though in my opinion, it's far from Usagi's level when it comes to art and story-telling (Usagi being better, in case my sentence was not clear enough.).

Oh yes, of course Usagi Yojimbo is at the top of my Comic Book pyramid! :D

I have enjoyed the photos of what people have and how they display it. It's fun to learn what people read via pictures. Thank you all!

For me, the reality is Cheryl is our interior decorator. She has excellent taste. But an unfortunate result of that is I don't have much shelf space for displaying my books/collectables. I have a shelf in my closet, a small shelf by my side of the bed, and 1/2 a shelf on our bookcase. I took some books to work, including my UY TPBs. The rest of my books are in the garage in cabinets and boxes. Lots of boxes from reading and collecting comics for the past 27 years. :)

Peace, maka

My usage shelf! Not as impressive as others but I do have a signed TMNT usage trading card featuring usagi :p. sadly bookshelf space is at a premium so it has to share space with a few other fandoms. I am grateful that my wife loves usagi so I can keep it on prominent display.

Man, I didn't know they released Vols. 7-9 though I did know about Vol. 0 but I never was able to buy it. I also have The Incal Vol. 1 but not the later volumes. Comixology just released the digital editions of The Incal as reprinted by Humanoids Publishers so I can finally finish reading it.

I keep all of my Usagi and Hellboy-universe trades, hardcovers, and single issues on a special bookshelf, and I keep my Hellboy prints and collectibles there too. (the best comics get their own shelf :D ). That bookshelf also contains a few other books like a MySpace Dark Horse Presents collection and one of the Modern Masters books (the Guy Davis one, which Stan did an introduction for). The rest of my trades and hardcovers (mostly Marvel and DC, with a small amount of various other stuff like IDW and non-Usagi and Hellboy Dark Horse books) go on another shelf. I keep all of my non-Usagi and Hellboy single issues in the drawers of a small table, and I also keep some of my better collectibles on top of that table (Funko POP figurines, my Mecha-Godzilla bank, etc.).

I hope to expand my Usagi collection, as I only have a few books besides the first two Usagi Yojimbo Saga books. I can't wait for the third one.

Just rearranged my shelves:

On top of bookcase: My Wonder Woman, Batman 66, and Robin banks. Also, the Batman 66 and Robin Funko Pops

Top shelf: Collectibles. Usagi and Wonder Woman action figures, three Batman action figures (which is odd because I only read Batman 66 regularly), an Ash action figure (from Pokemon), a replica Thor's hammer, plush Usagi, and a few Pokemon figurines and plushes.

Second Shelf: My favorite comic books. Usagi (obviously), Bone, Thor, Pokemon manga, Itty Bitty Hellboy, The Red Panda, etc.

Third Shelf: Mainly my Silver Age comics. Supergirl, Superman Family, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Thor.

Fourth Shelf: Graphic novels and Single issues.

I moved a lot of my graphic novels and single issues that I wasn't going to read again for a while into a box. Now I have more room for stuff like Thor and Usagi. :D

I like Funko Pops! I just got a new Captain America one at the comic shop yesterday. :D
Anyone else have any Funko Pops? I only have a few, but some other comic fans I know have huge collections of them (my local comic shop has a big shelf full of them).

I probably have over 20. I keep them all in a box except a select few that I keep on my shelf.

I thought about collecting the Star Wars figures, but eventually decided against it. The friend I gave all my comic books to was gifting them to me, but after a while I decided not to keep them and returned them with apologies and thanks. I already have too much clutter in my life and have been trying to cut back on collecting ...

I still think they are cool though, and if I had more space to accommodate all my desires, I'm sure I would still have them.

I really don't buy a lot of collectibles. Occasionally I will get an action figure or Funko Pop (I only have 5 Funko Pops total though; Captain America, Silver Surfer, the Flash, Wolverine, and Master Chief from Halo), but I've found that I usually would enjoy a new comic more than a new action figure. I would definitely buy Usagi collectibles if my local comic shop got them, though.
