Welcome to the Dojo, TheBroox!
Glad you finally got around to reading Usagi, even if it took a pandemic to do so
(too soon?). All joking aside, I hope you and your loved ones are safe and have all the resources you need to weather this storm.
And what a deal for getting those Saga books for $3 a pop. I envy your fresh discovery of the stories that we love.
I hope you find what I have found here: I came for the rabbit and stayed for the friendships.
Peace, maka

Re: Welcome New Members to the Usagi Yojimbo Dojoboard Forum
It is funny you say this. Just recently I was bemoaning to a friend that as good as a tool social media is at connecting people it has also lead to the death of so many single subject matter forums. Either by centralizing everything or simply because people only have so many hours in a day and Facebook and its kin dominate poeple's online leisure time. In either case so many single subject matter forums I participated in have either completely gone away or become ghost towns. It is a shame to not only be unable to discuss things with other passionate fans but also because it destroys the communities that build up around these forums.Maka wrote: I hope you find what I have found here: I came for the rabbit and stayed for the friendships.
Therefore I was super excited to discover this forum and to see that it still get daily traffic.

So glad the forums are working. I tried for over a year to register. But I'm glad the facebook UY group was (and is) so active.

Hey there y’all!
My name is Foster, but I go by Ap0kryphal online, either works for me.
I’ve been reading Usagi since I could read. My dad collected Usagis in the late 80’s and 90’s, so I ended up reading everything he had with a fervor. Around my 16th birthday he handed me a long box and a stack of trade’s and bequeathed his collection to me.
I have since expanded out his collection, finding a few colour specials he was missing, some of the Space Usagis, and continuing finding the dark horse run which he stopped picking up around issue 60. I eventually plan on collecting 1 of each Usagi covered comic (I have no delusions finding Albedo stuff will be cheap or easy, so I’ll buy them if I can but I want a more attainable goal), and I own the special editions and all 10 Saga books so I can read them even if I don’t have each comic yet.
This love of Usagi bread an overarching love of comic books and I’m in process of going back to university for Comic book writing.
Super excited to be a part of such an expansive community and I’m glad to help out in whatever ways I can if the Dojo at large needs me!

Welcome to the Dojo Foster! Sounds like you have some good history with Usagi.

Re: Welcome New Members to the Usagi Yojimbo Dojoboard Forums
Hello everyone I am brand spanking new lol. I first saw usagi in an ad. It was some sort of magazine filled with comics and figures and the like. I saw a picture of the cover of book 1 when I was very young (6-10 years old) and I am 31 now. The picture was forever stuck in my head. a rabbit samurai with horse reigns in his teeth... yea pretty bad a** looking to a little boy. Unfortunately usagi yojimbo is not terribly easy of a name to remember for a little boy so I did not have any way to access this amazing thing until I was 25 or 26 and stumbled upon book 1 in a comic store. I deeply regret not getting that copy of book one now for nostalgias sake. The important thing however is that did spur me to look into usagi. I ended up getting the saga editions and the fantagraphics special edition (although I am missing saga 7 and 8 until the second printings come back out) Luckily digital editions of usagi exist in the mean time. I have read all of usagi digitally but I vastly prefer physical and I am very excited for when I can read everything physically. I will now be going off in to a bit of a tangent... I have only recently joined because frankly I had been a loner for a good portion of my life. I had a craniopharyngioma (brain tumor) at the age of 15 and I was pretty depressed and suicidal for about 10 years due to the lasting affects from surgery complications (due to this my copy of the sakai project is very special to me simply for what it represents). It even led to me becoming atheist thinking why would god do this to me. I have slowly gotten my act together. I am now again a believer, in a fantastic relationship, and I am going to school for software development. for a more relevant point though I have come out of my shell and joined several groups on facebook and began talking to other people more. I am excited to be a member of the dojo and hope to have some good times with y'all.

Welcome to the Usagi Yojimbo Dojo, tgchronic, and really glad you have found your way here. There are a lot of great people hanging out in the Dojo here and we always like seeing new faces (figuratively). Stan Sakai still stops by sometime, when his busy busy schedule gives him the time, and he likes to interact in some of the conversations as well.......
Re: Welcome New Members to the Usagi Yojimbo Dojoboard Forums
Thank you steve
, yea I can only imagine how busy he is. Stan's dedication to his craft is something else.

Welcome to the DojoBoard Tgchronic! Grab a zabuton and a hot cup of ocha, and make yourself at home. Thanks for sharing some of your life story with us, and how Usagi has played a role in making things better. I grew up a bit of a loner and introvert, and certain comics were good company during those times. Glad to see you are having fun exploring the Dojo and participating. We've got a good group of people here, once you get to know them...
