I have to agree with most of the posts on issue 102 -- another fine working of art and story by Stan. :D

Darn good review. Especially the point about Usagi's love life being operatic.

You are forgiven

After reading my copy, I'm not 100% convinced she's dead just yet. It does look pretty certain, unfortunately, but there's no death balloon after all.

My wife and I discussed that too, but we feel the balloon was omitted for the sake of dramatic effect. If there'd been a death balloon, we would have known she was dead before Usagi did. As it stands, we had a pretty strong guess she was a goner, but the true climax of the issue was that terrible moment where it's confirmed for us and Usagi at the same time.

I kept waffling between the two endings. I may still redo it, and use the alternate for the trade collection.

The Sketchbook has a condensed 10-page story. It would have to be redrawn, and stretched out to a full 24 pages.

well, I'm guessing it doesn't affect the continuity much then. That would be really kool to have both versions published (as much as I can say that not having seen both) but it would mean more work for our beloved sensei.

UY 102 is the end of that particular story arc, then there will be a couple of issues where Usagi will not be appearing (origin of Jei). I've changed the next issue slightly, so that either endings can be used.

Personally, I'd love to see the "controversial" ending of 102 become the official climax of the Mayumi/Shizukiri story arc, as opposed to the one that was published on the 25th. If it ends on a bigger bang, I say go for it!

It'd probably make the entire arc more solid as well when it arrives in trade form.

It makes me wonder if I should have used that alternate ending I had for Grasscutter. Shogun Usagi. Hmmm...has a nice ring to it.
