Stan, I was wondering what you use for references as far as all the towns that Usagi ends up in. I can think of plenty of samurai films that would offer good references, but almost no photo references or books.

I've been in bed with the flu for the better part of a week, and so was off the boards. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
I have a number of references. One of them is a Dover book titled Japanese Homes and Their Surroundings. It has wonderful line drawings. Another book, with photographs, is The Secrets of Japanese Architecture. I also have a couple of books of photographs taken late 19th/early 20th century by Edward S Morse. These are terrific as it shows traditional peasant houses, clothing, old stores, etc.

The Dover books are awesome! Pretty affordable too.
Sorry to hear you've been under the weather, Stan.
