Happy Holidays and random question

Post by ziritrion »

Happy Holidays to all Dojo members and a happy new year too! And remember that some gifts can save lifes!

Totally random question: browsing around the internet I stumbled upon the Nicholas Roerich webpage and discovered that the Banner of Peace from the Roerich Pact has the same basic design (three encircled dots) that the Mifune Clan (Usagi's) mon. According to the FAQ, the mon is based on a rabbit's footprint, but since Usagi is more of a being of peace than a true warrior, I like to think that there's more than a coincidence relating both symbols. Stan, did you know about Roerich before?

I checked out the site and was surprised at the similarity in the design. I have seen the Mifune mon on several Japanese items while perusing stores in Little Tokyo, so I believe it is based on an actual Japanese mon. I didn'tknow it was based on a rabbit's footprint though! I know the Geishu clan's mon looks like an animal footprint of some kind.

Yes, Usagi's mon is based on a bunny's footprint, but it is also an actual clan crest. Originally, I had planned to use my own family's plum crest, but that is too complicated so I chose a simple, distinctive mon.

I was not familiar with the Roerich peace symbol, though.
