Hello there! I'm relatively new to Usagi Yojimbo, (having only been collecting for about a year), but i'm gonna take the plunge and get all the tpb's.
I went on the Fantagraphics website, but they're not all numbered, so i was wondering if someone could tell me the order that they take place in so that i can buy them in order.
Also could someone please tell me where the colour specials fit in? I'm guessing Space Usagi takes place out of continuity.

I'm sure someone can provide a list of the Fantagraphics TPBs in order; I have the original comics and have nothing to reference here at home!

As for the colour specials, Stan himself has said their continuity lies "beyond" the black and white comics at the moment. Or in other words, they are all set in the future of where the normal comic currently sits. But he hopes to eventually get around to reaching where they are set some day

I'm pretty new to the comic, myself, though I've been vaguely aware of it for years. My pastor is an avid fan of UY - he even has a large cardboard standee of Usagi in his church office!

Anyway, since I moved to Minneapolis two years ago, I've discovered that the local county libraries carry graphic novels, including a large number of the UY collections. Since I'm a Comic Art major, I've been trying to read more and more comics material, to expose myself to different styles and genres. More recently, I had been reading some history on Feudal Japan, and I remembered Usagi. I borrowed one of the collections along with a number of other books.

Now I'm hooked! What I had originally thought of as "another furry comic" has proven to be one of the most well-written introductions to Japanese folklore and feudal culture that I've ever seen. Stan's artwork communicates so clearly, and never fools around with any of the flashy mainstream-style layout and art wackiness that always pushed me away from Marvel/DC/Image work in the past. I've been a bit obsessed in the last few weeks in studying his choice of panel layout, compositional choices, use of contrast, and all that...not to mention characterization, dialogue, and plotting.

Now I have to go to the comic book store and arrange for a UY subscription...
