Simple Question

Post by Mayo »

Hello Usagi fans! I have recently recieved a copy of Travels With Jotaro. It has come to my attention that Usagi and Jotero have the same sensei. But in Usagi Yojimbo No. 26 (fantagraphics books) Usagi says himself "I was the last of three to whom my, teacher, Katsuichi taught his new style to before his death." Clarification would be greatly appeachated. (My appologies if there are any incorrect spellings).

For some time, Usagi was under the impression that Katsuichi Sensei had died. I think it is around issue 28 or 29 of the Fantagraphics series when he returns to his old village and on the way, runs into Katsuichi Sensei and learns how he is came to be still alive).

Jotaro, for the record, is actually Katsuichi's sixth student if the canon of Usagi is taken in full. However whilst we've seen students #3-6 in the comics, we've never seen either of the two before Usagi.

This is explained n UY Book 6 "Circles", when Usagi meets Katsuichi again after many years.

But now my question: I recently received UY books no. 14 and 15, from D. Horse Comics, and there is NO number on side of the books, and DH logo is somewhat different. As both books 12 and 17 do have number on side, and same logo (black horse), are my books some altered edition, or what? :?:

Tnx in advance!

The books with the numbers are reprints. The reprints have been slightly redesigned and feature the book number and the new Dark Horse logo. If you don't know the chronological order of the books, the number on the side can be quite helpful 8) . I don't think there are any more differences.

I think I've read somewhere (a post by Stan, perhaps?) that Fantagraphics is redesigning the first seven books too. I have no idea about how they'll look like, though :P .

Ah, so that's the thing with numbers! Thanks, Zitrion.

Now my #14 and #15 looks different than rest of the collection! But it's OK as long as there is no difference inside! For book #18 they retained the number on side, so it is now the standard, I think.
