Here are some tips which I use to make life easier for me.
Register
If you register, you'll get a "View posts since last visit" on the main page. A very simple way to get only the new stuff. And you'll get all new posts in all areas! So no need to click through NEWS, General Discussion, etc. anymore. All on one page.
Stay logged in
Enable cookies for this site, enter your login and password on the forum index and select "Remember me". Now you won't have to enter your login and password... well, at least until you start your web browser again
If you can't do that, then a web browser which can remember password for a specific site (Mozilla, for examle) helps a lot. Just note that you shouldn't use a password which you use anywhere else (which you shouldn't do anyway).
