Underrated Manga, Part 10: Tokyo Tribes HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED

One of my favorite movies of all time is the 1970s gang war film "The Warriors". I love the whole idea of a gang of people going through a biarre gauntlet of themed gangs trying to get back to there turf of Coney Island.

I've recently discovered what can only be the perfect Japanese equivalent. Tokyo Tribes by Santa Inoue.

First serialized in Boon, Japan's premium skateboarding magazine, it became a gigantic hit, and has shot its writer and artist into the stratosphere of celebrity.

They story basically revolves around the somewhat surreal story of gang
violence in Tokyo.

Its creator is basically the P. Diddy of Japan. Besides his hip hop influenced manga (such as Neighborhood 13 and Born to Die), he also has an album and a clothing line....
