Plus, under Diana's policy at Dark Horse, each assistant gets their own solo book to edit. I ended up with Usagi Yojimbo — a terrible learning experience because Stan Sakai is so good, you pretty much don't have to do anything but read it and call him and say, "Once again, Stan, you show 'em all how it's done." If you don't believe me, consider this story: Stan was always early. He was never on time, because he was always finishing week's in advance. One time, he called, and he said, "Jamie, I have been suffering from double vision, and it's been really hard to draw. I am probably going to need an extra week on this issue." He still turned it in ahead of his original deadline. Stan Sakai rules. The only person who comes close in that area is Andi Watson.
Jamie was a wonderful editor. I'm glad UY was assigned to him. One of the things I miss about him, is that he would read the story as soon as he got the original artwork and would give me a call and we would discuss it.
After he went to Oni he told me that he would have left Dark Horse months earlier, but he stuck around because he wanted to see how Grasscutter ended.
Jamie was a great guy and one of the UY Dojo's strongest supporters in the early days. He would have appeared in some photos of the early UYD gatherings at SDCC if he wasn't so camera shy.
