New Usagi Yojimbo Print

Post by Steve Hubbell »

The new issue of Diamond Comics Distributor's Preview Catalog has a listing (page 502) for an 11 X 17 inch painted lithograph Print featuring Miyamoto Usagi and entitled "The Duel", available in both signed and unsigned versions.

We have to assume that this is a differant print than the lithograph which Dark Horse is planning on distributing at the Comic Con Internation in San Diego. That print has been described as featuring the cover art from the Art of Usagi Yojimbo 20th Anniversary Hardcover.

Correct. Almost every year, an old friend, Paul Lau from Vancouver, puts out an Usagi print just in time for San Diego. The first year, it was the 8.5x11" blue portrait. Last year, it was the 11x14" Usagi with the ghost images of Katsuichi, Gen and Tomoe. I guess it gets bigger every year. This is certainly bigger than the original art.

I've wanted to do a painting using Cel Vinyl for a long time, so I finally bought a bunch of those paints. The tip-in plate for the UY Book 19 HC was my first attempt with it. This print is my second. I actually gave Paul a choice between two images. The unused one will most likely be used as a cover or somewhere.

Thank you for the background information. I was thinking that the picture sure had an "animationish" look to it. Thought it was just my imagination.
