Sweet...what's the average price for a wicked Stan Sakai sketch?

This was done as a belated wedding gift for Todd and Kari.

Congratulations.

Thanks again Stan. Kari is more than looking forward to getting it matted and framed for the new house (tentatively slated for the proposed "Usagi Room"...assuming I can get my way...I'll keep you updated...let's just say that I already have the shoji screens and lamps lined up). Just call me an obsessed fan...

By the way, the scans came out well. I should be sending them to you this week. I've got one TIFF at very hi-res...perfect for the next Art of UY or maybe an upcoming cover for a UY collected book (maybe the one with the Tomoe appearances in the UY Color Specials)...one can dream...

First, I was hoping that it will get a month in a 2007 calendar.

Just as I thought: That piece was too polished to be a "sketch." :D

It was done with Cel-Vinyl on 500 series 5 ply strathmore bristol.

I've admired Scott Morse's paintings for quite awhile. He uses Cel-Vinyl colors, so I bought a bunch them in January and painted a bunch of stuff--the signature plate for the UY Book 19 HC, the new print, and a couple of other things.

I usually work with transparent watercolors, so it's very different painting with opaque Cel-Vinyl.

Hello Todd,

While we have never met, let me add congratulations on marriage as well. I've only been married 11 years so far (in fact we just celebrated our 11th on world peace day, aug. 6th) but our relationship just gets better each day. Enjoy each other and grow together.

Also, it's time for me to take the time to thank you for starting and maintaining this website (it was fun to read the history of it). I haven't really visited many other comic artist or fan webpages. But with no offense to neilgaiman.com or markmartin.net, this is the best DojoBoard Forum of them all. Respectful members and fun threads to follow and/or contribute to. Thanks for making it happen. :D

Peace,

maka

Thank you and no problemo, Maka. Just glad to be able to support both Stan and his fans.

Regarding the painting itself, the scan does not do it justice. Particulary because the gold "specs" in the background and some of the other colors have a nice bright, almost reflective "shiny" quality to them, which as you probably know cannot be duplicated on-screen. It really has to be seen in person to fully appreciate it. Such is the case with paintings in general I would imagine.
