Stan's Radio interview (old thread) + Usagi Mind map + Video

I did not find the first thread of Steve... so i start this new one
i found (at last) a solution to share the interview :
i was wondering Steve : how did you get this ?

http://ladrevert.free.fr/usagi/intervie ... Sakai.html

i dunnot know if i have enough bandwith with my freehoster, test and tell me if it is okay for you (you will need a flash player). Todd if you want all the files tell me.

About legal mentions ? i suppose you have to agree Mr Sakai that we publish this interview. For the moment i made no link to this file.

If someone has written down the whole interview, please send it to me.

another thing i am working on :
http://ladrevert.free.fr/usagi/map/

http://ladrevert.free.fr/usagi/map/clothes.html

that's an experimental (and alpha version) Usagi mind map. A mind map is an interesting way i think to manage information. Let me know what you think of this tool, what would you like to see ? if someone made a database with commentaries of Stan about all characters it would help me !

I have to work a lot on this (there is the structure, i got to fill it)... i would like to make a french/english version of this.

If you see nothing : click reset, i post some bugs on the developer's forum.
How to use a mind map : click a node to expand it, click and drag to move the map.

I received some junk email from "bitpass" which had a link to the Fanboy Radio web-site, so I checked it out and discovered the Stan Sakai interview.
Legally, it would be up to Fanboy Radio and Stan Sakai, Fanboy Radio probably has the rights.

Man, that is cool, I really like the section of Usagi's romantic interests.

What kind of limit is there on how much information (or graphics) can be added to the map?

How about a branch concerning Usagi Yojimbo fandom, with commentary on the UY Dojo, the Official UY mailing list at Yahoo, the Livejournal Uy_Fans site, and all the various international fansites (including yours), etc?

I don't know if you have seen the Usagi Yojimbo "Frequently Asked Questions" page or not, it has a lot of information from interviews and from the forums, all seperated by specific topics. It might help a bit, even if it does not quite fill the "database" criteria that you would prefer.
Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ: Most popular questions
FAQ: Questions about Usagi Yojimbo
FAQ: Questions about Terry Miyamoto
FAQ: Questions about Stan Sakai's Ninja Clans
FAQ: Questions about Stan Sakai's other characters
FAQ: Questions about Stan Sakai's comics.
FAQ: Questions about comicbook lettering.
FAQ: Questions about comicbook lettering.
FAQ: Questions about Groo
FAQ: Questions about Japanese culture and history
FAQ: Questions about myths and monsters of Japan
FAQ: Questions about songs in Usagi Yojimbo.
FAQ: Questions about Usagi Yojimbo merchandise
http://www.usagiyojimbo.com/intro/faq.html

Again, really nice work. It is an amazing set-up for posting information and I love the way you have chosen to use it for documenting the history and influences of Stan Sakai's Usagi Yojimbo.

Abayo....

Okay, i was asking, because in France if you record a radioshow you can use it without permissions. I will send them an email.

i invitate you yo test it :
http://sourceforge.net/projects/freemind

i use it with a flash browser plugin :
http://www.efectokiwano.net/mm/mindmaps.html

Actually, developpers didn't think that we can use freemind as i did... i report to them 15 days, and i have seen that there is new release !

So what to say : text can be html formated, images are jpg, png and gif ones. But there are all loaded when you see the page. So you cannot insert too many images.
But we can make several map linked to each other (Main map, clothes map, monsters map...)

OK, good idea ! send me links and commentary, i will add this ! i just put few links for the moment (dojo, darkhorse, fantagraphics)

about the FAQ, there is a lot of informations...sometimes on the forum or in interviews Stan describe in a few words what we just need to know. Perhaps we could have basics and extended informations in the map. It is just that it takes more time than i expected to collect information and inject into the map...

About the Usagi's romantic section, there is a lot to do !

thanks for your feedback Steve !
I think you are "Hatamoto" of my website too !

I have no objection to making the interview available to anyone. I'm not sure about how far copyrights extends on the internet. I do know that Harlan Ellison won a copyright infringement suit many years ago.

Is the fanboy interview still available at their site? If so, maybe just a link to it might be sufficient.

It is still available, if you can get the archives to cough it up (a search for "usagi" brings it up, but a search for "Stan Sakai" does not ??).

It is priced at $0.75 but requires signing up with Bitpass to pay for it. I can't remember if Bitpass required a credit card or if I transfered funds through Paypal.

It would be interesting to find out if Fanboy Radio has a transcript of the episode, I know I would like to have one. 8)

I never even listened to that interview. I do remember that I was on the phone for an hour, even though the interview was about half an hour long. The other half was just them talking about stuff. I got bored, so worked on Usagi.

I have to admit that it was one of the very few radio talk shows which I actually enjoyed listening to.

The link Fanfan posted in the first message above seems to work, if you want to listen to it.

I sent an email to Scott at Fanboy Radio inquiring about the availability of a transcript, and also asked for permission to post the interview here on the Dojo for Usagi Yojimbo fans to access for free. Hopefully, he will reply back sometime soon.

Is that how they normally conduct interviews on that station? I don't think they asked Stan a question in the final 15 minutes. That seemed a little rude.

The first half was worth listening to.

I gave the drawing to the interviewer.

Including the color, it took about 10 or 15 minutes to do.
