UY Roleplaying Game: Starting Skill 8? Please help me.

Hey there everyone!

I borrowed the UY Roleplaying Game from a friend of mine (since its, as fair as I know, gone out of production :()

Me and some friends were creating characters when we hit a problem:
Debukuma Bakuto is a Bear Gambler.
He uses some of his 4 points plus the bonus from being a Gambler to get a Mental score of 7.
As a Gambler, he also starts with +2 to his Perception, and another +2 for it being an Everyman Skill. The Games skill goes on Mental, so he adds this score to the other two plusses.
This gives:
2 + 2 + 7 = 11

This is the score he will have no matter what, without spending any skillpoints.
However, the rulebook states the following:
1. No attribute may start above 8 (which the Mental score doesn't, so it shouldn't prove to be a problem)
2. No skill may start above 8. However here, with the Games skill, we have a 'natural' 11.

How do I solve this problem?
I have more examples, if you want them.

Please help me, as we are quite incapable of proceeding with our roleplaying before we have this figured out.

Wow a roleplaying question! I was starting to think I was the only one who played around here.

Unfortunately I don't have the book with me, but I will look it up when I get back to my place.

You should seriously consider picking up the Sanguine version of the Usagi Yojimbo Fantasy Roleplaying Game.

I also found that funny. However I don't remember what I did in those cases:
1.- I let the player the high ability, but didn't allow him to raise even further...
2.- The limit is on purchased scores only, bonus are not included....

Personally I pefer the first approximation.

I have picked the Sanguine UYRPG, but have had no time to read it. Is it good?

This is how I read it.

No 'skill' can be above 8. That doesnt include the attribute as well.
So, you only have a natural 'skill level' of 4 so far, not 11.
You got +2 for it being a general skill to everyone and +2 for it being a Gambler skill for a total of 4. Your player can add up to 4 more skill levels if he wanted to.

Monsada, where did you buy the Snaguine RPG? Did you order it online or did you buy it from a regular store in Valencia? I haven't seen it at my local store in Barcelona, I guess I could ask them to import it for me, but I haven't asked them about it :P .

Ziritrion, if there is not In Gigamesh I higly doubt it will be anywhere else, I bought mine from their webpage (limited edition Yay!) and asked my local comic store, but it is hard to get it.

Monsada, you should definetly read it, it has a good description of every region in Japan, and a very good background explaining things as the influences of religion and even crishtianism.

When we talk about the sistem it is a buit confusin at first, but highly intuitive after the first game and the players wont get any problem using it.

Recomendation: make your players write in the back or theyr character sheet what does their gifts do.

I am willing to play a game with miniatures, as this could even lead for a funny warwame.

P.D: 3 Spaniards talking in english xD

I'm due for some online shopping; one of the things in consideration will be the UY RPG from Sanguine. And yes, Gigamesh is pretty big for that kind of store (they even have a whole store dedicated to Go gear and books and trading cards!)

And sorry about the editing Pekass, but the filter is there for something. Try using "freaking" instead or something. Or be creative ;) .

Yeah, tell me about the madness of bcn... Today at the metro there was a delay of 30 minutes, and more than once I've had to walk through the city to get home because of technical dificulties. The city has grown too much for all public services, and the roads aren't planned very efficiently. Some roads have hour-long lines at morning and evening almost daily :( .
