Just looking at the pin-ups, you can see Stan changed Usagi from the "older" style to the "newer" style (slightly taller and thinner, with the head not so large compared to the body) between 1987 and 1988.

So is the "souvenir book" the show program, or something else you can pick up there? Just thought I'd ask as this year will be the first I can get some stuff in person ;)

The souvenir book and the Convention program book are the same thing. I am not sure where I picked up the term souvenir book from, maybe it is called that officially. I compiled that list a couple years ago. :?

Unfortunately, Stan has contributed only a couple pin-ups over the last six years, and this year's program will be sadly lacking in a pin-up from him as well.

Thanks again,
Abayo...
Steve
I did not do anything for this year's con book. It is rare if I do anything for it anymore--just for really special occassions such as the anniversary of Bone a few years ago. There is just not enough time.

Cheers,
Stan
I have to apologize, I lost electricity before I had managed to upload all the images I had planned on posting in this retrospective. I will post the ones from this computer (the public library) for now, and finish with the rest tonight or tomorrow.

More than the pinups-- one year Usagi was on the volunteers' shirts they gave us for working all four days of the convention!

That was the coolest shirt!

Kliban Cats remind me of Hawaii and my grandma

Post by Maka »

Thanks Steve,

These are all great, but this one:

is my favorite again.

Growing up I use too visit Hawaii almost every year to see my Grandma. I fell in love with Kliban Cat on crazy shirts. My mom even cut out one of the t-shirts images and sewed it on a comforter they still have. It's fun to see both UY and the cat together.

aaah, that reminds me of my grandma. This is totally off topic, but here's a video slideshow I made for mothers day a few years ago (my grandma with my kids): http://homepage.mac.com/cmtakahara/iMovieTheater62.html (I might have shared this already, my memory isn't so good).

Peace,

My favorite is still the ad Stan did for Comicon with Tomoe and Usagi arriving too late to save Gen. I wanted to post it here, but I can't seem to remember where I have it reprinted. I thought it was the Radio Comix Art of Usagi #1, but that apparently wasn't it...

That was the one for 1988, featuring Usagi, Nilson, Hermy, and Spot.

It's reprinted in UY #79. And was in the SDCC program in 2004.

That is the last of them, at least until another "really special occassion" comes up for which Stan will be unable to resist the desire to contribute again....

I know, this isn't from the Comic Con International: San Diego program, but it IS a convention program which Stan got to do the cover for....
