Pronouncing Jei's name

I thought this topic might be a little too trivial to be given its own thread, but this question has been driving me bonkers for years, and there aren't enough USAGI fans in my part of the world to tell me.

How do you correctly pronounce Jei's name? Is it spoken as "gee", or does it sound more like "Jay"?

"jay" as in Jay-san (Jason, a pun on the character in the slasher film)

Note that "je" doesn't exist in Japanese as a native syllable. There's "ja", "ji", "jo" and "ju", but no "je", only "ji-e". So Jei must be a foreign name. :)
