Look at how nice a sketch from Stan can look when colored...amazing
Stan: "My Spanish friend, and terrific artist in his own
right, Tirso Cons e-mailed me a drawing I had done for
his wife, Raquel, at Angouleme last year. One of
Tirso's colorists, Javi Martin, colored it for him.
It looks really good.
It snowed at Angouleme last year, hence the snow
theme."

The coloring itself was not actually done by Stan. The sketch looks to be similar to the types that Stan does for free at conventions and such. As the note near the bottom indicates, the coloring was added by a Spanish friend of his.
A while back, when Stan used to sit with Sergio and Tom at conventions, you could get a drawing from Stan, or even a print, and have Tom Luth color it right there. I would imagine you could still have this done, assuming you can catch Tom at a convention.

This is indeed one of my quick sketches that I do for free, though I am a lot more liberal with them in Europe where there is less of an e-bay mentality than in the US. The colors really bring the drawing to life, though.
Yes, Tom used to bring his coloring supplies to San Diego and, for a modest fee, would hand color original art. He and Sergio even made a limited edition hand colored print of the major Groo characters. I have an artist proof hanging in my studio.
In my opinion the original black & white Stanley's drawings are obviously much better than any coloured versions. You mustn't agree with me, but I find them exactly aristocratic - like a japanese kanji characters or old masters' ink-painted landscapes - and so there is really no need to add a colour to the ink.
I find myself in agreement. I hope the colouring (which is very nicely done) was done digitally because I'd hate to think that the original was altered - I'm a purist, I admit it!
