MCCC was a blast! Thanks, all of you!

Post by shaxper »

K and I just got back from Novi, Michigan. We had a lot of fun laughing and talking throughout the three hour drive home to Cleveland, but throughout the trip, we just kept coming back to how amazing the meetup had been. As soon as we got home, I flew over to the Dojo to put my feelings into words--

Thanks first to Steve and Morna for organizing a meet-up. I had unknowingly passed Steve twice and even talked to Morna once before realizing who they were. If we hadn't chosen a designated time to meet, I probably never would have figured out who they were! It was such a blast to get to meet everyone and, later, sit down for a delightful dinner at the Cherry Blossom.

Oh, and Morna and Gary, thanks for your comic book recommendations. Keira and I devoured the whole of Mouseguard volume 1 today and adored every panel. B.P.R.D. and The Marquis are next.

Thanks next to Mike M. and his friend (whose name escapes me) for some really fun dinner conversation. It was such a pleasure to meet the two of you and get so involved in discussing everything from terrorism to The Speedforce.

Thanks also to Sergio Aragones (who will probably never see this post) for being an absolute riot. He scored extra points for liking Keira's Aquaman shirt, as well ;)

Finally, thanks so incredibly much to Stan for truly being the nicest guy in comics. When Keira and I first walked up to say "hi" at the convention, I was so nervous and at a loss for words that I just excused myself and had to come back later. But, as we got to spend more time with you, I felt like I was talking to an old friend. That's amazing. Talking with you over dinner and at the booth was tremendously fun, and you were so generous doing a sketch for us (with a tokage in it!!), signing comics, and even giving us those wonderful posters. You made our weekend so incredibly special that I can't thank you enough. Anytime you're within three hours of Cleveland, you'd better believe Keira and I will be there to see you!

So thanks to everyone for making this such a special weekend! I feel truly privileged to be a member of such a fine community, and though Keira is not a fan of the internet at all, she holds you all deeply in her heart, as well.

Thank you.

Sergio and I talked about what a wonderful time we had at Motor City. We've been to so many conventions, but this one will always stand out as special because of the people there.

Special thanks to Steve and Morna for coordinating the photo get-together and dinner. That restaurant, Steve, was terrific. The food was amazing, and it was walking distance from the hotel.

Thank you all for the gifts you gave us.

I don't know if I'll have time to write a detailed trip report because of my deadline crunch.

I met Stan at MCCC way back in the early 90's. That con has always been a lot of fun. Good to see it is still going strong.

I manage a comic shop here in Michigan and had the privelage of meeting Stan this weekend. Outside of my comfort zone of my shop I'm a bit shy, especially when speaking with someone that's created something i've enjoyed for so long. But he was so easy to talk to, and made my weekend when he pulled the board from the bag i had my copy of usagi 100 in and made a sketch for me. Thanks so much Stan! :)

This is my first time visiting these boards as well, so i'll toss out a quick hello to everyone, and I look forward to keeping up on Usagi here.

Welcome to the board! It's always great to meet a comic shop owner who hasn't lost touch with his inner fan :)

Welcome to the boards!

Where is your shop? Do you sell a lot of Usagi Yojimbo? :-)
Stan mentioned at dinner that he made some sketches for a local comic shop. Im wondering if it was yours.

I wish I would have known about the meet up! I just found this board today, trying to find a way to send Mr. Sakai a copy of the sketch he did for me:

I wrote a blog about it. That and many more pictures and videos are at the virb link in my sig.

I'm looking forward to spending some time on this forum.

Thank you so much Mr. Sakai! For the sketch, years of enjoyment, and for Usagi!

I specifically recall someone reposting the image of your sketch in a thread here. It's quite a nice one.

Welcome to the board! Always a pleasure to meet a new Usagi fan :)

Ha! that cap one is awesome!

I actually manage a shop thats part of a chain here in michigan, we have one in Novi where the con was, one in canton and my store here in pontiac.

I don't sell as much Usagi as i'd like, but I take every chance I can get to convert people. I've found I have a better chance of getting manga fans into it then superhero folks (most of our customers are very big marvel/Dc people) but I do try :)

I know my boss added Usagi to her list of books when she does presentations to libraries at my suggestion, so here's hoping some kids get familiar with the bunny through that.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. :)
