A question for Stan about Jei

Post by Ben »

Konnichiwa, Sensei!

I was reading my copy of UY #103 again, when I realized that we've never seen Jei on horseback throughout the entire series. I've sometimes wondered if the "chill" that characters feel when in Jei's presence would also frighten off horses and other animals. Is there any truth to this?

I don't like drawing horses, so most of my character walk everywhere.

I love simple real-world glimpses into the preferences of the artist like that! :D

Actually, it goes beyond not liking to draw horses. Horses were used mainly by the privileged class and officials.

Another quirk of Japanese sociey is that though the wheel was in use, it was not commonly in use. Most things, even palanquins, were carried by porters.

I never liked the idea of horses in Usagi. It eliminates the possibility of an Equine-like character. Giant tokage with saddles would have been the way to go. :D
