Thank you Mr. Sakai! (my art pickup from SDCC '07) *UPDATED*

I just wanted to post a follow up to my UY commission request from Mr. Sakai's "What to bring" thread. I made sure that one of my first stops on Preview Night was at the UY booth and after diving into the original art portfolios on the table, I told Mr. Sakai who I was and what I had requested. He pulled a beautiful piece of art from behind the table made just for me!

Here's what I had requested in the other thread:
"I would love to request something with Usagi and Gen relaxing over sake (which Gen finds a way not to pay for, of course ). Those scenes are always my favorite...the two of them battling all day and then finding a place to rest and sharing a meal and a drink together."

And here's what I received:

I am still just completely blown away! I knew it would be nice and I would love it, but I'm just so proud to have this and show it to my friends and I can't wait until I can have it framed and up on my wall!

And, as if that wasn't enough, while I was at the booth, Mr. Sakai was nice enough to sign and draw in my Art of Usagi Yojimbo hardcover:

Thank you, Mr. Sakai, for a great start to my convention and a beautiful piece of art that I will cherish always! And thank you for being so nice to all of your fans!

Sincerely,
Brandon

I've got to find some way to attend these conventions. I'm starting to think about paying for the entire airfare there and back, regardless of whether or not I could afford it.

Thanks! I'm terribly pleased with the way everything worked out!

You really should. It's a crazy place, but San Diego really is the place to be if you can make it.

Yeah, it was one of those moments where I was seeing all of this great art in Mr. Sakai's portfolio and really trying to decide if I wanted to buy one of those...then he showed me the "Splitting the Reward" piece and I just wanted to stand there and stare :)

Yes, very awesome peice!

Isn't Stan the coolest guy! He really takes care of his fans. I had the same reaction when I met him at the Emerald City Comicon a few years ago. It was almost overwhelming meeting him & sorting through all of his artwork.

I can't wait to meet him again, hopefully at next years SDCC.

Take care! = j

Thanks again to everyone who has commented! I had the Usagi and Gen original piece and the UY100 Poster (signed and sketched...thanks Mr. Sakai!) framed last weekend and finally had a chance to hang them in my new, tiny office. I need to decorate more, but these two are a great start!

Sorry for the small and less than great photo...all I had on me was my camera phone...but you get the idea. I think I'll put my UY TPB collection on the shelf above my desk/computer. My co-workers might think I'm a little nutty, but I'm ok with that :D

Anyone else have UY stuff up on their walls at home or work?
