I checked mye-mail this morning and recived a perverted E-mail. You know them kind that say "I read your Profile and such and such on this or that website?"
Well it seemed odd that the person in the mail said usagiyojimbo Webpage. I always thought E-mail like that was from a robot or something. But the only reason why I checked it was because it said that I had a message from the UsagiYOjimbo webpage. I was REALLY- wrong, I just thought it was odd to get an Email using this type of topic. Anyone get what I mean?

Sounds to me like a lot of people received that email. The spammers have reached an all time low. Now they are telling people WHERE they stole their email address from, attempting to entice people to follow up, but also making the sites they harvested the address from look suspect. This is no good. I still can't tell if it's the DojoBoard or the DojoList where they were able to obtain the email. Some indications suggest the DojoList, but I can't see how they could do that since accessing it requires a log in. Same for the DojoBoard, but all you need to do is register. It could have also been a few of the older pages, but unlikely since newer members are also impacted.
I should probably send a mass email out to members with some sort of explanation.

Todd, i am both on the Dojo List and the forum and i didn't received this email...
Could you please post the header of the emails if you received other exemples ?
Have you checked we do not find on google the emails that got spamed?
i read a lot of technical forum about spam on phpbb, none i found talk of this (only spamer registration, not a failure that allows to collect emails, moreover the fail would be the database not the forum since a normal user don't have rights to see emails...)
On the dojo list when you reply your email is known by other people, but Usagi is not on the dojo list...
really don't know

It seems strange how the message I received was not even addressed to my email address!

If emails have been collected monthes ago...NakedBoB wrote:The email the spammers used for me isn't the current one I use for the Dojo. It was an email that I originally used when I signed up sometime ago. I changed my email back in Jan '07. I'm guessing they're using old data.
Dunno if this helps. Just thought I'd mention it.
Love,
Naked BoB
"PRISCA SANKOR" is a common name that we can find in several scam index.
What we can do against this spam is : if you received this spam : send an email to abuse@hotmail.com and abuse@yahoo.com in order they freeze email account (you have to send a copy of the email with the header) and specify UsagiYojimbo has nothing to do with this spam.
What we can do against spam : in supposition this spam has something to do with the forum : patch regularly phpbb (i suppose the database is hosted by NewDream) but i believe Todd already patched the forum when we had spam registration here.
All people with admin privileges (or at least who can see emails, moderators ?) should change their password too.
Of course this decision is up to Todd. This is just my opinion.
