Another New Samurai Comic

I just ran across book 1 of Will Dixon's 4 part "Soul of a Samurai", published by Image Comics (which explains why I missed it in Diamond's Preview catalog). At $5.95 an issue, each of which is somewhere around 30 pages, it is a bit over-priced in my opinion, but the story was interesting so far and has me looking forward to the next over-priced issue which should be out soon (even though it is being released bi-monthly). Has anyone else read this?

YUP, I took a look at it, looks very nice, has a NETSUKE feeling to it, but I think I'll follow the series.
On the same subject but another comic, can someone explain to me LONE WOLF AND CUB 2100. Please god, I hope they don't kill the character...

I liked the original series way too much to even buy a single issue of Lone Wolf 2100. Maybe if it had been done by the original artist and writer of Lone Wolf and Cub, I might have been tempted... Oh well, Dark Horse still publishes the best, usually...

Lone wolf and Cub 2100 Was pretty hard to follow at first yet the art is amazing and if you completely read it with out the Original series in mind you will enjoy it as a Sci Fi Samurai story line. I love the Cub series! I go back to the original 1rst Publishers series. and love the story line and art. So for my 2 cents and a half worth, 2100 is by no way anything like the First series. Yet if read as a stand alone, Much worth it!!!

Unfortunattly the GREATEST, Goseky Kojima, original artist of LWC Died a few years ago. His art, that is more that those thousents of pages in Lone Wolf, is my example of how COMICS come first, and MOVIES second.

Always.

My respects to Akira Kurosawa

Funnily enough, I've just finished watching the first two LWC movies (which Koike and Kojima were, according to the credits, very active in the production of). Very true to the books, in many cases you get the idea that the manga were tacked up as storyboards for the director, and yet... rather less effective than the slightly sketchy, monochrome inspiration. Part of that is probably overuse of the Mighty Blood Cannon (tm, 1971 Toho Studios), but there's something to be said for the reader's role in fleshing out the reality.

Case in point: Yagyu Retsudo never chews scenery so much when I'm reading the book  HOORAY for sequential art in print!
