Failed Ambushes

Post by Ronin-K »

I was thinking about something the other day. How come when ambushes fail in Usagi Yojimbo, there's always some guy who says "Our ambush failed! Kill them!" or something like that. Did people announce there failures in Ancient Japan?

I don't know if it was like that in ancient Japan, but it was sure like that in the old chambara movies. Another idiosyncrasy was that during a chase, the pursuer would always yell, "Stop!" The other guy never did, though.

That's kind of funny. I will try to find some of those movies to watch, as you say they are your inspiration for Usagi.

I always noticed in Anime flicks that if someone was about to shoot someone in the back or do something without the other knowing they always shouted the name of their victim first.

I wonder if that's some kind honourable holdover. I mean you can't do something so heinous as kill someone without them knowing.

At least in Japan. In the West anything goes. You're a grease spot. :)

I like the way in the samurai flicks (and in UY comic) that the heroes always get contronted by the big band of bad guys at the front of the inn or temple, and never leave by the back door where there are no enemy. What happened to "Hey, Akimoto, cover the back door!"?
