Hey guys I'm new to this board...I'm thinking about getting into Usagi Yojimbo...I'm a little confused about the crossovers though. Are they in continuity? By that I mean the turtles appearance in the Usagi Yojimbo comic...what about Usagi's appearances in the TMNT comics? I hope those aren't because those TMNT isses would be hard to find...does Usagi's appearances in their comic connect to his story in his comic? Hope this doesn't sound confusing...oh and are the volumes available in hardcover too?

Crossover continuity: Yes, and no. If you are talking about the stories I created with Turtles and Usagi, yes for the most part. With the exception of The Treaty, they have all been reprinted in the UY trades. Usagi and gang's appearances in the TMNT tv show, definitely no.

The collections are available both as limited edition, signed and numbered hardcovers, and I have been seeing more library edition HC as well.

Welcome :)

As a fan of both TMNT and Usagi, then having both sets of issues hasn't been a problem heh. Regarding the hardcovers, variable numbers of them exist: Volume 4 (Dragon Bellow) had 1,500 printed for example whereas many of the recent ones are at 300 copies each.

One thing for certain though: most of them aren't that easy to track down and go for decent money. If you just want to read them then you'd be more advised to find the paperback versions (speaking of which I'm selling four of them on eBay at the moment).
With a breeze comes a storm, but then you'll all be washed away...

Hello,
and welcome to the Dojo; I think they fit into the larger plastic bags, although I put them in a sturdy magazine holder (the ones they sell at IKEA with small metal prtotections for the corners and edges).

At my local comic shop, they offer at least four sizes of plastic bags for various comics: American standard (for UY sized issues) a bigger variant, an even bigger bag for TPB, and nearly DIN A4 sized bags for European comics.

Just ask the staff at your comic shop, I'm sure you're not the only one wanting to put his trades in a bag...

And have fun reading; maybe you'll find you don't want to put them in a bag after all, so that you can read them easily time and again. :D
Greetings from overseas

The interesting part of all this is that early on, the Turtle/Usagi crossovers were outside of UY continuity...and were so for a very long time. They were not actual stories which took place in the UY universe. Stan has since relaxed this disclaimer and added the crossovers to normal continuity. This occurred relatively recent and was first announced here on the DojoBoard somewhere.

"The Treaty" was actually reprinted in the UY trades, but only in the hardcover version of UY Book 6...assuming you can find one anywhere!
