Hi all!
I have just started collecting the Usagi TPBs and going through the books at my local comic store found that there are different editions.
The Dark Horse Books differ in that some of them have a black horse head and the number of the UY book, while others have a white horse head and no number.
Many people don't understand this, but I am one of those guys who like to have a collection consisting of "books that look the same", in this case: I don't want black and white horse heads mixed... (so far I have only black ones, but I don't want to order online if I can't make sure which ones I get).
Is the black head the latest edition? How do I make sure to get them all in the same edition if I order online? Any ideas?

You know what, that is weird, my Demon Mask has the white head too! I never noticed that. And now it will drive me crazy on my book shelf, the one white horse in the midst of the black ones. Curses!!!
I wonder why they did that, is it because of the colors on the covers? I should think the black would show up just fine anyhow.

While we're on this subject, there's something that I've wanted to ask about for a while. Earlier this year, I purchased a hardcover copy of Mother of Mountains, and I didn't realize until I looked at it more closely that it doesn't even have the words "Dark Horse Comics" or the DH logo anywhere on the cover. The only logo I could find says "BWI Bound." On the inside, everything about it is normal, and it doesn't seem like a pirate edition or anything like that (the title page says "printed in the United States of America"), but the cover is a little strange compared to my other UY volumes. Can anyone tell me why this is?
Also, why do some UY volume have "Dark Horse Comics" on the cover while others have "Dark Horse Books?" At first, I thought that the "DH Books" label might be used for the more "prestigious" titles, but it seems to be somewhat arbitrarily applied (of course, I think that implying that UY is less "prestigious" than anything else published by Dark Horse would be pretty silly).

Your Mother Of Mountains might be a library binding...
As for the spines, I looked at my hardcovers. All the early DH ones have a standalone knight (all coloured white bar one which is black, I guess cos the dustcover is a light shade), all of them from Duel At Kitanoji onwards have the new design of a white square with a black knight inside.

TPB
My Demon mask volume 14 has the white horse without a volume number on the spine. Inside cover states it is a first edition. Maybe the more recent printings have the volume number and black horse. I got it for $10 at a local comic shop so I can live with the different look...but eventually I'll try to match it.
Hi all!
Thanks for your replies!
I think it might actually be like Trevor posted that the first editions or earlier prints have the white head. I'll try to figure it out when visiting my local comic store next time...
@ Jet_Jaguar: I also noticed the "Dark Horse Comics" and "Dark Horse Books" labels. Thought it might depend on the number of pages, i.e. that editions with less than let's say 200pages are referred to as "comics" while longer editions are "books". But that is just a guess from my side. So far the only volume labelled "comics" in my collection is Grasscutter II and that's also the shortest one...
@Mayhem: I was referring to TPBs as I am only collecting the paperback issues. I don't know about the HCs.
Cheers again for your answers!
