Comic-Con 2009 registration up

Post by MerryRogue »

I'm not sure if this was mentioned in any other threads yet, but Comic-Con opened its registration in August already.

http://www.comic-con.org/cci/cci_reg.php

Since they seem to be selling out faster and faster this year, it's probably not a bad idea to secure tickets now.

Also, due to the eBay ticket resale insanity (with people paying $400 for Saturday only badge codes) with this past year's convention, Comic-Con has posted that they will NOT be granting transfers this year.

Hopefully this isn't a duplicate thread, but I just hope all of the Dojo members make it in before they sell out. :D

My thoughts exactly when I saw this.

People in the LiveJournal community I found this info out from are already abuzz with concerns over getting a hotel room too.

I didn't think hotels down there started taking reservations until January or February, but I guess I was wrong.

I book my hotel room ASAP...well before January. Usually in Sept/Oct. One time I tried to book in February and found out the hard way. I'm going to book my hotel room before buying my registration this time however. I passed up on buying reg at the Con since they stated the $60 pricing would be the same until Fall. They pulled a fast one this time however. Oh well.

Out of interest Todd, where do you normally book (and cost wise), and how far away are said places from the convention hall?
With a breeze comes a storm, but then you'll all be washed away...

Not going this year (maybe 2011-ish), but thought I'd share what I did for 2008:

I booked a non-con rate back-up hotel in Mission Valley last December just in case February stampede went bust (got lucky with the Westin SD-Emerald Plaza again). The Doubletree Hotel SD at Hazard Center had a AAA discount that brought it under $200 per night, plus it had a Trolley station almost right across the street.

Mayhem,
I usually book somewhere in downtown, within walking distance to the convention center. Lately I have been staying at the Westgate because I get a corporate discount. It was $170/night. It's weird though --a co-worker of mine booked her reservation literally a couple months before the con at Westgate for the same corp rate -- maybe she got lucky and someone canceled.

I will usually set up a reservation at the Westgate for safe keeping and continue to look for better deals closer to the convention center. I have literally stayed at the majority of the hotels in Downtown San Diego and love it when I can see my hotel from just outside Ball Room 20. Although lately with the gouging that hasn't been the case!

Hello UYDers,

I just bought two 4 day passes for my partner and I and both are kids are under 12. We are planning on renting a vacation home with some family friends for the week. Not the cheapest but we should be able to save a little by cooking our own food.

I know my family won't go every day. I've never been so I might. I'll have to wait and see. We want to check out San Diego Wild Animal Park (and maybe the zoo - but I've done that before) and Sea World.

I do hope we will have a UYD gathering of some sort. It doesn't have to be dinner. Just something to meet you fine folks.

Sunday is children's day? Has anyone ever done that? Any personal experiences are appreciated.

Looking forward to this! UY silver anniversary here we come!

Peace, maka

I have not pre-registered, yet, but a friend is .... well, forcing me to go might to be too strong a word, and begging isn't quite right either. It's something in between those two. And two other friends that are going want me there, too....sooooo.....
Looks like I will be back at SDC 09.
