So, how did they approach you to do the art on the "Queen & Country" 1.5 short story Stan? I was very surprised to see your work in there. Pleasantly of course. Great to see your work in another 'genre'.

I'm referring to this series (for those unaware of it). It's a very good graphic novel set.

Was this the only short comic you did for them for this series?

Are you referring to the short story titled "Queen and Country" which was originally published in the Oni Press Color Special 2001 back in June 2001?

Greg Rucka and I talked about doing a project together, as we are fans of each other's works. Jamie Rich, my first editor at Dark Horse, was senior editor at Oni at the time, and suggested a Queen and Country short story.

Greg wrote the story, and I illustrated it. He actually gave the okay for me to do it as funny animals, but I thought that would be a bit too weird and stuck with using people.

Later, Jamie asked if I would like to illustrate one of the multi-issue story arcs, but I had to decline.

Stan - Thank you very much for the details. It is a very nice piece. I'm glad you stuck to humans, it adds very well to the storyline between their issues 1&2. (clicks in better then anthropomorphic would have).

Steve - the book I am currently reading is this edition of Queen & Country Book 1-

The short story is near the back, just prior to a section including Queen & Country original character and headquarters sketches.

You may very well be correct about the story appearing elsewhere, they must have just compiled it into this first offering of Queen & Country 1-4.

As I was reading and viewing the pages of Q&Cs issues 1-4 in the book, the styling was somewhat reminiscent of Stan's works (but very different). I had not seen on the inside cover and inlays that Stan was mentioned (he is), then when I happened upon it, I was completely surprised. Ahah! They are similar, but very different styles. Steve Rolston has a 'similar' black and white style, but his lines are thicker and more prevalent throughout. Its a similar 'genre' of penning, but not 'the same'. Your work Stan is completely unique.
