Why is no one talking about this amazing issue?
I just read it last night and I couldnt stop thinking of Fistful of Dollars. Which is based on Yojimbo of course. I just haven't been able to find a decent copy of Yojimbo yet. (I know, its a travesty)
But this issue was excellent.
Issue 124
Moderators: Mayhem, Steve Hubbell, Moderators
You know, I was thinking of asking why there was so little discussion of new issues (and paperbacks) here. But I thought it might've been a bit antagonistic for my second post.
But yes! I picked up this issue last week*, and as soon as I read about the town with two bosses and saw Usagi treading through the deserted streets, I knew this was going to be a homage to Yojimbo.
And no bad thing. I half-expected to see a tokage trot past with a hand in it's mouth.
It's obviously not a direct copy, either. Characters and relationships are familiar but also different - so much so that I don't know if anything other than the basic 'playing two bosses against eachother' theme (if even that) is going to remain the same after the first one or two parts. And that's no bad thing either. I guess I can live without the over-busy cooper, in order to see what direction Mr. Sakai takes the story.
Favourite bit? There are a lot. For a single panel, though, the reaction to "Better than you are?" takes it. Gave me a chuckle. Usagi's well-used to giving 'The Stare', but this time, to my eyes, it's shot through with a bit of "Just shut up, you."
*Which was fortunate, in my local comic shop. Spotting a copy of Usagi Yojimbo on the shelf is a rare occurence. Either they don't bother ordering it in often (which is lax of them), or they do, and it gets snapped up quickly (which is a good sign, and lax of me). I have a sinking feeling the last one's the truth, but I digress.

I try to make a habit out of not making too many posts here, otherwise I could look overenthusiastic.MikeM wrote:Why is no one talking about this amazing issue?

I didn't know it was possible to be over enthusiastic about the best comic book series being written, drawn, and published.....Ben wrote:I try to make a habit out of not making too many posts here, otherwise I could look overenthusiastic.

OK, maybe I'm biased because it is the only regularly published on-going comic book series I buy and read.
