Thinking about replicating Usagi's uniform: Need Help.

Hey folks!

I have been inspired to re-create Usagi's outfit and wear it to one of my Shinkendo dojo's test cutting events for fun and photo ops, but need some help figuring it all out.

It looks like it could be a uniquely colored dogi top and hakama--not a full kimono. The white/gray belt on the hakama is different, and the top is a little more elaborate than the boring white pajamas leading me to believe it might not be just a simple gi made with different fabric.

I think I could get away with finding a blue fabric with black dots and taking a pattern of my aikido gi. I could replace the hakama belts with a white fabric and probably get away with it.

Questions:

Has anyone already done it? Mass produced one? It'd be easier to buy it than to haul out the sewing machine.

Has anyone made iron-on patches of the mon? They'd certainly look neater if they were embroidered. I have a place in town that could probably do it, but that's another thing that's cheaper to do when its mass produced.

What is Usagi actually wearing?

Help!!

Thanks, everyone!

I doubt the stippling literally means the fabric is covered with black dots. I could be wrong. Hopefully Stan will chime in.

Good point--it might be a texture! You don't see the dots on a lot of the statues, plushes or the paintings. I just figured it's hard do mass produce and paint consistently.

Thanks for the thought! I still need to know what that uniform actually is. Mainly I want to figure out that white belt on the hakama. I can scratch-build the rest of it. . . unless I can buy the whole thing somewhere!
