Hi,

I just found an announcement for a new hardcover edition uf UY on amazon.de.

It says:
Usagi Yojimbo (Fantagraphics) [Special Edition] (Gebundene Ausgabe)
von Stan Sakai (Autor)

Gebundene Ausgabe: 1200 Seiten
Verlag: Turnaround Publisher Services; Auflage: Special (26. August 2010)
Sprache: Englisch
ISBN-10: 160699154X
ISBN-13: 978-1606991541
Größe und/oder Gewicht: 22,9 x 17,8 x 2,5 cm

The size seems about the same as the regular hardcover and paperback editions, but 1200 pages? Is that supposed to be the omnibus of all published stories?

Does anybody know more about this?

Here is what is listed on the American Amazon site, which has a slightly later release date than what is listed for the German Amazon site....
Amazon.com wrote: Usagi Yojimbo: The Special Edition (Fantagraphics) [Hardcover, Deluxe Edition]
Hardcover: 1200 pages
Publisher: Fantagraphics Books; Two-Volume Slipcased Edition edition (October 12, 2010)
Language: English
Product Dimensions: 9 x 7 x 1 inches

Description:
Fantagraphics is releasing a deluxe slipcase set collecting the first seven Usagi books, including the earliest stories; the origin story, "Samurai"; a full graphic novel; and literally dozens more. This is the complete, definitive Special Edition. It will also have extra material, some from the long-out-of-print hardcover editions and some brand new: a complete full-color gallery of the more than 50 Usagi covers from that period (never-before-collected); many preparatory sketches; two "non-canon" Usagi stories by Sakai co-starring the TMNT (with whom Usagi also shared screen time in the TMNTs' TV series); and a long career-spanning interview with Sakai.

Hello Karl-Heinz,
and Welcome to the Dojo by the way; it seems that more and more German fans find their way to this forum, where I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun.

The 1200 page Special edition will be a collection of the first seven trade paper backs published by Fantagraphics, plus an updated interview of Sensei bound into two volumes in a slipcase.

An omnibus of UY would be three times as big; and since this is an ongoing serie, it would never be complete as of now....

Hi,

thanks for the updates and details on that special edition. I started reading UY with a German edition by Carslen, then by "Der Dunkle Turm". But they haven't published large parts yet or early editions are already out of print again. So I started to read the DArk horse edition from book 8 on.

This Fantagraphics special editions seems exactly the right thing to fill my "early holes" in the series. I hope it will actually happen.... Oct is still a long time.

hi karl-heinz!
well first of, servus to the dojo also from my side!;)
like they already said this is a collection of fantagraphics part of the series of the ronin rabbit...
the german editions of usagi mean well and actually are translated nicely and come in good looking shape but they lack completeness since they don't reprint full story archs in their books(see dragon bellow conspiracy i.e.)..
this 1200 page collected edition of fantagraphics will be fun also for the neat specials it brings, such as the interview with stan, the short stories from existing hard cover books and the full color cover gallery of all the issues....
aaaaaaaaah let it role in, please;)....
