Motor City Dojo Meetup -- LAST CHANCE!

Post by shaxper »

Okay folks.

Motor City Comic Con starts this Friday, and I'll officially be out of contact with the Dojo board as of Friday morning (on my way to Detroit!), so Thursday night is your last chance to sign on for the Dojo meetup and dinner with Stan.

Here are the details:

Dinner meetup is Saturday at 7:30pm at the Cherry Blossum. We have a separate party room set up for us. Obviously, we'll all be paying our own way except for our guest of honor (and Sergio, if he joins us). The Cherry Blossum will be adding a 15% gratuity to all checks as well. If you'd like to look over the menu in advance, you can find it here.

Dojo members who are currently attending:

My party (4 to 5 people and a toddler)
MikeM's party (3 people)
Jennswack & husband
Steve Hubbell and nephew
Wildfire405 and wife
Stan (and anyone else he would like to invite: Sergio? Guy Davis? David Peterson?)

15 to 19 people at this point, by my count. If we go above 20, I need to let the Cherry Blossum know in advance, so I MUST know by Thursday night if anyone else is planning on coming. The more the merrier -- as long as you tell me in advance :)

Also, do we want to try for an informal meet-up and photo op at Stan's table during the convention? I was thinking 2pm, and we can head over to Stan and Sergio's speaker room together at 2:45. This is a time conflict for anyone who wants to see Al Feldstein at 1:45, but if we move it to after Stan and Sergio speak, it's a conflict for anyone who wants to see the Evil Dead panel at 3:30.

Let me know!

Where did you get the info on when (and where) Stan and Sergio's panel is being held? I have been unable to find any speaker room schedules yet. :?

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again (or for the first time). I'm off to the airport soon.

I am bringing everything people asked for. If you did request I bring something for you, please introduce yourself and let me know even if I have the same item on the table. Oftentimes, I would spend more time on a drawing for a Dojo member.

I am looking forward to the Saturday dinner. It should be no more than 20, right. At least that is what I am preparing for. I don't know if Sergio will be joining us. He might get together with friends he has not seen for awhile, but they have not set anything up as of yet.

I am looking forward to this weekend! I'm bringing my Bat Lash trade for Sergio to sign. :)

Oh and I might have 1 more person joining us, but unfortunately we don't have an answer yet (sorry)

It looks like 15 to 20 people at this point, including you and the possibility of Sergio.

Can't wait to see you, Sensai!

I will need a ride to and from the restaurant. I am not at the same hotel as last time, which was two blocks away from the get together.

We'd be happy to provide you with one, so long as you don't mind having a toddler singing in the back seat.

I'll send you a pm.

Posted this in the other thread, but wanted to be sure you all noticed, because I am having such a great time on the Dojo website:

I'm jealous because I was unable to attend the show and possibly the dinner. But I will say, as I have in the past, as a new member, I have never been shown so much hospitality over such a short period of time by any other forum on the internet. This is a great community of fans, and I hope everyone who was able to attend the dinner had a great time. One day, hopefully in the not too distant future, I will be able to attend a Dojo function and meet some of you fine people.

Cheers everyone! :D

At airport. Our 7:20 flight delayed to 12:35, and wont arrive in LA intil 2:40 AM. At least I am with Sergio. We are both working, Sergio thumbnailing Groo/Conan, and I am writing Return of Lord of Owls story.

That makes me thoroughly happy to hear!

However, I'm very sorry to hear about the delay.

Thanks for making all of our weekends as magical as it was, Stan. These are the memories that stay with us for years and decades to come.

MikeM, Jacob, me, Stan, and Shaxper......

Next time, MikeM and I are going to talk ahead of time and coordinate the t-shirts a little better!

Image
I am less sure with the names for this side - friends of of MikeM, Wildfire405 and wife, Jennswack & husband, and Shaxper's friends down at the very end.....

Image
I am not too sure who was down there at the far end, and I was probably napping during the introductions.....

Image
Here is a veiw from the opposite end, with MikeM's other friend, Shaxper's wife and daughter visible....

Talk about a woman earning her $2.40 per hour wage! Our waitress was great considering the size of the group.

Image
The entres have finally started to arrive.....

Is it food?

Image
Or is it art?

Image
Speaking of art.....

Image
Stan illustrating a toy which was mentioned during the Stan and Sergio Panel earlier at the convention.

Image
And Stan even managed to find a copy of a Usagi book which was missing a sketch and autograph. Something which he very quickly fixed.
