How to GET Stan Sakai art?

Is it by any chance possible to commission something from Stan? I've had an idea in my head for a decade plus. One of these days I may get to SDCC to ask in person, but I doubt it.
I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask. I don't see anywhere on the site that discusses it, but it's a big site and I might be overlooking something.

good luck with that...i've been trying every which way but sideways to get a commission for months...starting to think that unless you see him in person you're pretty much out of luck....unless of course you get a piece on ebay but check the price out on the page thats up

Please keep in mind Stan's current situation, his wife's health, deadlines for the first Usagi comics in almost 2 years . . .
Normally, he *has* taken commissions, as long as the requester was able to meet up with him in person at a convention. Maybe again in the future? Planning and patience are required.

I've only just gotten back into UY again and haven't heard much about what's going on with Stan. Sounds serious, though, and my sympathies are with him. I've never been to any convention other than local store ones, but SDCC is one I might get to at some point, since I have family living in San Diego and Tucson (about six hours away). Catch is it's so big I gather you have to get tickets a year ahead of time, and for the last few years work and family issues have prevented me from planning that far ahead.
Maybe I'll just post what I have in mind in the fan art section of the board. It's part crossover, part mild irony. I enjoy sketching and might after some practice be able to realize it myself.

Hi Jen,
This is the right place to ask; welcome to the boards. As Shadowfax said, there are some personal things that might prevent Stan from being able to accomodate the same amount of requests he usually has. However, I've found the best way to know is just to ask him. You can send him a PM here, and he's good about responding. I have two commissions from Stan, the most recent I set up before Emerald City this year and picked it up at the show. From my perspective, since he doesn't mail them out, I believe the only way to get a commission from Stan is to attend a convention where he's a guest. He'll be at Big Wow in mid-May in San Jose, CA. The only other advice I'd give is to be patient & gracious. He is a very kind man and is really good to his fans.
Good luck!
