Mouse Guard

Just back from the monthly trip to the local Comic Shop and I found a hardcover called Mouse Guard: Winter 1152. I had never seen his title before and bought it.

Reading it with the kids and enjoying it but what was REALLY cool was when we flipped to the back and saw a gallery of "Pinups" by different artists. As we flipped through them we all yelled out loud when we saw Stan's Mouse Guard/Usagi Pinup.

A REALLY great print. We LOVE it!!!

Anyways, thought I would share that cool experience!

I also did a short watercolored story in Legends of Mouse Guard vol 2, though the colors were very washed out.

David Petersen has done a number of Usagi drawings over the years, including a nifty one that was used as a back cover to an issue of Usagi.

I would like to read Mouse Guard at some point. I have only seen it once, at one of my local comic shops, but I did not get it at that time. It must of been purchased because its gone now.

Stan: Do you know which collection that would be in? Is it in the Autumn 1152 series or is it its own series/volume? I am new to the series and would love to get the collection with your work in it.

There is also a rocketeer story and a hulk story. A while back there was a bone story (although Stan didn't do the writing, just the art). And there is also a nursery rhyme Stan did. And a lot of pin ups. . Happy searching! Peace, maka

If I buy this book without buying the first one, will I be completely lost or would it not matter that much? (I don't want to buy both, because if I don't like it I don't want to have spent $30 on books I don't like, and I want the Stan Sakai story)

There should be a collection of all the Stan Sakai short stories that have been published over the years. But then I suppose you would have to get permission from all of the companies, so that might be troublesome.

I can't remember who it was here, but someone mentioned Mouse Guard many years back, and I decided to check it out. So I've been a fan since then, and it also helped me meet a good mate of mine who's also into the series, and a lot more besides comics wise.

Interesting to see you use the word "autumn" there Buck, and not "fall"

The "Legends" series are effectively tales, stories, fables and myths set in the world of Mouse Guard, and they don't usually feature any of the main canon characters, so they can be read on their own, in any order really. There has been two series already, and the first comic from the third series is just about to be released.

I'll add to the praise, I'm also a fan of Mouse Guard.

Just to clear up what are the books available:
Main series:
-Fall 1152: the first published story.
-Winter 1152: Sequel of Fall 1152. It can be read independantly, but it's better to read Fall first (you will get spoiled of the ending of Fall otherwise)
-The Black-Axe: It's the third book of the main series, but it's a prequel to the first two stories. It can be read quite independantly without getting spoiled much.

Side series:
-Legend of the guard: Some mice tell the tales and legends of the Mouse Guard world. Each tale is drawn by a different artist, while the pages connecting the stories are drawn by David Petersen. Since these stories are legends, and each legend is a complete story, each of these books can be read completely independantly. The 3rd book of the series will be published soon.
-Baldwin the Brave and other tales: Book collecting the short stories by David Petersen which were published for the Free Comic Book Day over the years. They are set in the Mouse Guard universe and may or may not be connected to the main series.

Wow, thank you! I consider myself quite a small collector, actually: I'm not a professionnal at all, this is just a hobby and a passion (though an expensive one), and I've never sold a piece (which doesn't mean I'll never do it, but I didn't get tired of any of my pieces yet).
My collection has been built over the span of several years, and I hope to add a Usagi piece by Mr Sakai when I'll have the money.
Mayhem's collection is much more impressive than mine, you should have a look at it.
