Usagi Yojimbo DojoBoard

Philadelphia and San Diego are comming up on us. Is there anything attendees would like me to bring along--that last issue to complete your collections, the calendar from two years ago, finger puppets, an Emerald City Comic-Con poster, etc?

I'll have a few new things this year:
UY Sketchbook--OK, I'm jumping on the sketchbook bandwagon. It's 24 pages, plus covers, signed and limited to 750, and contains preliminary drawings for covers, character designs, etc. Most, if not all, unpublished.

UY cloisonne pins--new blue background, as well as the classic red.

A new UY print from the folks who brought you the "portrait print" a couple of years ago. It's a watercolor print. I don't know if I'll actually have this at my booth, or if they are selling strictly through distributors.

I did find a batch of old 11x 17" prints--the "walking in the grass" print from circa 1991 and "Dragon Bellow" from circa 1994. I have very few hand colored versions of these. I also have the cover of Book 4: Dragon Bellow Conspiracy as color copies on cover stock.

Drawing the Line--a recent anthology book featuring the likes of Moebius and RG Taylor, with a new 4 page Young Usagi story. The profits from this book goes for cancer research.

I'll have all the trades, and at least one set (probably for the last time) of all the hardcovers, for individual sales. Also sets of the Fantagraphics, and Mirage comics.

UY Book 18: Travels with Jotaro should be out, as well as the 2005 calendar.

Suley is an amazing person. His wife Julie Eng is a professional magician, and he is a magician's assistant. He is also a cancer survivor, which is what lead to this benefit anthology in the first place--he wanted to give something back to those who helped him.

One of our fondest convention memories are of the time Sharon and I were in Toronto, and we went out to dinner with Suley and Julie. After the meal, she entertained up with amazing close up magic.

Suley also send these wonderful letters, works of art, really. They are collages of their experiences on a trip or events in their personal life or his ongoing therapy.

We are truly grateful to have them as friends. 100% of the money I get from selling their books goes to Drawing the Line.

To those who sent me e-mails: Yes, I will also have a selection of original art--cover art, drawings such as those that grace the back covers, watercolor paintings. Unfortunately, Dark Horse has not returned the Snow Bunny original. They are planning to use it for their Christmas cards this year, and are holding onto it until then.

The b/w prints are $20. I only have a few Artist's Proofs left, the regular edition having sold out long ago. The hand colored prints are $100. The Dragon Bellow color copies are $5.

Any idea what the going price for the sketchbook will be? It sounds like it would be a great companion volume to the 20th Anniversery Art of Usagi Yojimbo volume.

It is $10, which seems to be the going rate for these things or at the lower end. It is limited to 750 copies, signed and numbered, with a little head sketch of Usagi.

Stan - if you would be so kind as to put aside one each of the b&w prints and a color copy of the Dragon Bellow cover, I'll come by and pick them up either on preview night or Thursday. Also a copy of the sketchbook please.

Steve - I would be happy to pick up a sketchbook for you and mail it right after the convention. Let me know if that sounds good. (What am I saying - of course it does!!)
