Custom hardbound volume 1 omnibus

As many of you may know, volume 1 of the hardcover omnibus series is very expensive. After someone on this forum recommended I look into having the softcover hardbound I decided to go ahead and do it and it cost me about $40 with shipping.

They didn't have a die stamp for the kanji on the spine so I decided to paint i myself. The color is a little off so I may go back and touch it up. I had the cover image printed online and glued it to the front cover to simulate the real volume 1 omni. Stan is going to be at Boston Comicon this summer and I'm hoping to take it there to get it signed.

If I was going to do it over again I would've skipped the dakrhorse logo so the horizontal bars and the volume number "1" lined up with the rest of them but all in all I'm very happy with it and it blends in pretty well on the shelf. I like hardcover both functionally and aesthetically.

I had it done by Herring & Robinson. After sending off my book to them it took about 6 weeks to get the finished product back. http://www.herringandrobinsonbookbinders.com/

Looks good from this angle. Any chance of posting an image of the front of the book?

And price wise, it was a lot cheaper than what the Saga #1 HC is currently selling for......

Wow, that turned out really nice! Great job painting in the kanji on the spine.

How's the quality of the binding job?

Sorry for the late reply. I never got a notification that anyone responded. Binding is great. I sent them the softcover omni and it looks like they removed the spine of that one and then glued and sewn it together for the hard cover. You'd never know it didn't come this way. Looks very professional and clean. I couldn't be happier with the binding job they did. If I needed something bound I would definitely go with them again. They have a lot of options and it's very affordable.

If you click the imgur link in my first post I have multiple photos of the books, including the front cover. The original softcover (front and back) is actually bound into the hard cover so they kept that too. Basically bound the entire thing into the hard cover.
