On all these new Usagi Releases this month

Post by Eshbaal »

Hey there.

So, I happen to be pretty new on this forum. As I mentioned in my other thread, I'm from Denmark... which makes things a little difficult with all the great stuff coming out this month (the Hell Screen paperback, Usagi Yojimbo: Legends and of course the TMNT crossover).

Now, given where I live, I'll likely have to wait quite a while after release until the books appear in danish comic book stores... which will then likely be more expensive than in the US due to shipping cost and tax and such. Which I am technically fine with.

But with some gift money about to come my way, I thought maybe I could order all of it at once and have it shipped here. Which, granted, might be expensive anyway due to the distance, but I at least wanted to check the possibility. But trying to see what shipping rates would be for Denmark, it seems from Sakai's store that you can't actually order any of this outside of the US. No other country appears in the drop down anyway. Does anyone know if there really is no way to order all this stuff from abroad?

Speaking of which, does anyone know the release date of the TMNT/USagi crossover? I haven't spotted one during some quick searching through the site. Apologies if it has been brought up elsewhere.

Do Danish comic stores tend to be a bit behind with the ordering then? I am rather grateful that the place I get my comics from here in the UK is only a week or so after the US in terms of arrival. They are also fairly competitive in price for me as well, usually half the dollar price in UK pounds (so if the RRP is $60, then it usually costs me 30 quid or thereabouts). I spoke to Daniel (Stan's step-son who runs the website) a while back about allowing people to order from the site outside the US, and I believe it's possible, you might just have to contact him directly first.

There are very, very few danish comic book stores to begin with, thanks to the country's size meaning that, as many comic fans as there ARE here, only a few can keep going. There's only two in Copenhagen that aren't essentially antique stores, for instance. One of those MIGHT get the stuff in proper time, but it's unlikely.

Thanks for the date, though. I'll see if i can get in touch with Dan, and hold off on ordering anything till everything's released.

Are you looking for the hardcover editions of the Saga Legends or The Hell Screen books? If not, I could pick up copies of the tpb versions for you from my local shop and ship them to you. Another, possibly less expensive, alternative is ordering directly from Amazon.com since all three books are listed for pre-order. They ship internationally and their shipping fees are quite a bit cheaper than what the post office offers to the general public. Of course, their packaging sometimes is a bit under-padded (big box with a little book inside....).

My favorite website when buying comics is http://www.instocktrades.com/. I was using them when I was living in Europe (I still use them in US), and never had a problem with them.
The shipping is a bit more expensive than amazon, but the quality of the packaging is exceptional. For a large order of comics, the shipping fees are more than worth it.

I also use instocktrades. They probably won't have the TMNT/Usagi book, but for trades, they package so much better than Amazon. I haven't gotten a single damaged book from IST, but probably 35-40% of my book orders from Amazon come with slightly smashed corners.

I am not a big fan of hardcover for comic books (for reasons I am not even sure of myself, honestly), so I am definitely looking for paperbacks. Amazon is one I worry a little about when it comes to comic books...
