If you haven't seen Takeshi Kitano's rendition of Zatoichi yet, I highly recommend you correct this problem as soon as humanly possible. I was able to get a hold of this DVD at Comic Con and I must say I'm nothing but pleased with it.

I noticed quite a few connections to UY in the film as well, almost too many to be a coincidence. Besides the obvious inspiration of Stan's character Zato Ino, there was a character in the movie named Lord Sakai, and another named Gennosuke. I realize they are just coincidences, but it's still good fun to try to make conspiratorial connections!

Yes I really want to see this film. I really like Takeshis' films and him doing a samurai movie is even better. I was going to buy it at Wizard World but I had already spent too much money on other films and comics.. I'll have to pick it up online sometime..

Highly recommended, IMHO. A welcome return to form for Kitano, after the fish-out-of-water Brother and the deathly dull Dolls, not to mention a bonafide blockbuster (in Japan, at any rate).

ive seen that movie, its amizing, but has anyone seen any movies with toshiro mifune, like samurai 1,2, and 3 about miyamoto musashi, or obviosly seven samurai, if anyone hasnt seen seven samurai, you havent lived.

my two favorite people in history are miyamoto musashi(read the book of five rings) and uesugi kenshin.

It's been a while since I've watch the Musashi trilogy, but I seem to recall it was an iNteresting insight into the angst-ridden culture of late Sengoku Jidai/early Edo Japan... or maybe mid-20th century film-making Japan. One keeps feeling an urge to shout, "Just explain the situtation! Stop being so damn stoic!"

I was finally able to rent Takeshi Kitano's remake of Zatoichi. Absolutely incredible. Takeshi does an outstanding job as Ichi, and the fight sequences are amazing to watch and lightning fast, not to mention very bloody (I found myself hitting the replay button on my remote many time while watching the movie).

I was pleasantly surprised at how they recreated the "feel" of the old chambara movies. This one felt like I was watching an issue of Usagi, despite the fact that it was all humans.

I heartily recommend this movie to all Usagi fans. After watching the movie in subtitles, check out the dubbed version. The voice actors speak with heavy Japanese accents...almost as good as watching the movie in its original Japanese. Too cool...

Just saw the new Zatoichi dvd at a local Walmart store and was debating buying it. I think I will now after that recommendation!

The dvd i saw comes with a second Japanese film, but I forget the title. It was, unfortunately, not a chambara film or I would have bought it then and there.

Abayo...

Dear Readers,
The Zatoichi movie was released with Sonatine, a great Yakuza movie also starring Takeshi Kitano.
Not for kids but like black licorice, we who like it, really like it!
Best wishes to all,

Takeshi Kitano's Zatoichi rules :D . I'd like to become a tap-dancing samurai when I grow up too 8) .

A funny thing about the Spanish dub is that most of the actors dubbing it also dubbed "The Lord of the Rings", and it's really funny listening to Ronin and thinking "Hey, that was Aragorn's voice, right?" or watching Zatoichi and saying "He just talked like Gandalf!" I've yet to see it in Japanese.
