Usagi in new TMNT board game on Kickstarter
Hey guys - I just wanted to post this here since it seems that no one else has yet. IDW Games is rereleasing an updated version of their TMNT Shadows of the Past board game with updated visuals and more streamlined minis. The release is being done through Kickstarter. However, what may be of interest to those of you here is that one of the Add Ons is a Stan Sakai Box that will include minis of both Usagi himself and the TMNT as drawn by Stan.
I own the original version of the game that was previously released. I enjoy playing the game quite a bit, and even though I may be biased given my love for the TMNT, the game has received pretty positive reviews from the general gaming community as well. This new edition is an updated version with more content, and it is definitely worth a look despite the hefty price tag.

I believe you can just pledge $1 and then add on $25 for the Usagi pack, you don’t have to back one of the game perk levels.
With a breeze comes a storm, but then you'll all be washed away...

How sure of this are you?Mayhem wrote:I believe you can just pledge $1 and then add on $25 for the Usagi pack, you don’t have to back one of the game perk levels.
While I am not thrilled pledging $125 (plus an undisclosed shipping amount) for a game I will more than likely never play just for the Stan Sakai Kickstarter Exclusive Box, I really don't want to pay $26 on a rumor of possibility getting the Stan Sakai Box and then end up with nothing.

Re: Usagi in new TMNT board game on Kickstarter
This is from the FAQ on the Kickstarter page:
Can I buy just the Add-Ons like the Sakai Pack, Deviations Box, or Villains Upgrade Box?
Yes, just back for $1 and add those to your cart in backerkit.
So it looks like you can just get the Sakai Box if you want. Pledge for $1. At the end of the campaign, your card gets charged $1. A few weeks later, IDW Games will send you an email with a link for the Backerkit which is where you finalize whatever purchases you want to make from the campaign. The $1 will be applied toward the final total. If you decide you want nothing, then you are only out $1.

Great! I didn't want the whole thing, just the Sakai expansion. Guess I'll pledge a dollar. As you pointed out, worst case I'm out a whole dollar and can't get the expansion.

Re: Usagi in new TMNT board game on Kickstarter
You guys talked me into it. I'm in for a dollar also!

Re: Usagi in new TMNT board game on Kickstarter
I'm in for an Usagi box. Pledged for $25, no reward, assuming I can add the Usagi box in BackerKit.
I'm most keen on the Sakai-inspired Turtles minis! I've been after something like that for a long time. Though it's not the statue I would Ideally love, it's probably the closest I'll ever get.
I'm a little disappointed in the Usagi mini that was revealed though. I was hoping the pose would be similar to the image on the box art, as are the Turtles. Ah well... now to decide whether or not to paint the minis. And if so, all red masks or coloured (I'm leaning towards all red)?

47 hours to go. I just pledged my $1 and will order the Sakai box when the campaign closes.
Re: Usagi in new TMNT board game on Kickstarter
Nice!
You could always pledge the full cost of the Usagi box, and edge the total closer to the remaining stretch goals, rather than waiting til after the campaign closes.

Re: Usagi in new TMNT board game on Kickstarter
I have never used Kickstarter before but got caught up in this campaign and ended up going for the full game instead of just the Sakai box, which is what I originally intended. The 74 "free" comics almost covered the cost of a full pledge for the game.
I was a little confused how there was a side auction run to raise money for the Kickstarter campaign. In the side auction there was a custom painted Usagi piece (no idea where the figure came from or if it was a custom job too - I hope not at that would be IP infringement) but I won that auction for $40. The proceeds going to the main campaign. This is what the figure looks like. It will sit on the shelf beside my Roku statues.

Anyone know where this figure might be from or is it a custom creation?

I know nothing about this. It must be a handmade sculpture.david20009 wrote: I was a little confused how there was a side auction run to raise money for the Kickstarter campaign. Re: Usagi in new TMNT board game on Kickstarter
I am not sure how I feel about this then. I thought most likely it was a piece from a previous game as most of the painted pieces that were being auctioned off I believe came from prior TMNT games and I don't know much about what has been going on with the turtles in the last 2 decades. On one hand it was being auctioned off to help fund the kickstarter campaign as opposed to enriching the seller but on the other hand money is being made off IP that the seller does not have a commercial right to use.Stan Sakai wrote: I know nothing about this. Re: Usagi in new TMNT board game on Kickstarter
Since it's a one-off, hand made piece, I wouldn't worry about it. Selling something like that is no different than when I commission an artist to do an Usagi piece of art for me, or if I have Stan draw me a Hellboy or some other licensed character. Yours is just a sculpted piece of original art rather than a drawn one.david20009 wrote:I am not sure how I feel about this then. Now, if they were to then create a mold and mass produce Usagi statues without a license, that's something entirely different.
