USAGI YOJIMBO TP VOL 01 BUNRAKU & OTHER STORIES
DEC190716
(W) Stan Sakai (A/CA) Stan Sakai
Follow these all-new full-color adventures of rabbit ronin Miyamoto Usagi as he wanders Edo period Japan on his warrior's journey.
This first volume of all-new material continues the saga of Usagi Yojimbo with the three-part "Bunraku," as Usagi becomes embroiled in a puppet drama where the players are not quite what they seem! Will the aid of a supernatural ally be enough for Usagi to prevent more death? Then, Usagi goes back to his roots as a yojimbo (bodyguard) when he is hired by Lady Mura, a famous writer, to keep her safe on her perilous journey to her father's home.
Plus, a 35th anniversary special where Stan Sakai revisits the very first Usagi story, "The Goblin of Adachigahara", expanding it from 8 to 24 pages and adding new insights into the characters and events, as well as revealing the reason for Usagi's pilgrimage back home. In the final story, Usagi joins his friend the bounty hunter, Gen, and his partner Stray Dog in recovering a stolen sword, an heirloom of the Higashi Clan. Collects the first seven issues of the new Usagi Yojimbo series published by IDW.

We have not discussed this with IDW yet. I am still waiting on confirmation to see if we have a budget for an introduction.

Thanks Stan. I would have never thought that the introduction needs to be worked into a budget.
It's neat all the stuff we learn here!

Another interesting insight to the publication process.

Sounds like it's going to be a great year for Usagi!
I'm looking forward to seeing Gen and Stray Dog back in the picture. They make for a fun trio. I'd love to see Stray Dog interact with the other main characters outside of Usagi and Gen.

That was educational for me as well!
If it helps, Stan, I, for one, could live without an introduction. It's just nice to have the books in hardback.

I believe that Stan himself said that we'll also get something special in May, and I can't wait to know what it is.

If I was a betting man, I'd put money on the Chibi Usagi project.
Stan Sakai wrote:... We would like to continue Chibi Usagi shorts but don’t know if we can because Julie has a couple big projects, one of which comes out at the beginning of May (hint).

Stan,
If it helps, I would be willing to do the introduction for free

If there must be money exchanged to make it a legal and binding contract then I will do it for $1

Will the Bunraku TPB include the variant covers? (Specifically the Tick cover...)

I think it's too bad IDW is numbering Bunraku and Other Stories as vol. 1 rather than continuing on with the current numbering. I'd wager they wanted to make it vol. 1 so that newcomers will be more likely to buy it over something labeled as vol. 34, where they might feel they can't buy it without reading the previous 33 volumes.
