Dark Horse Extra papers

Post by Gaffey »

Are any of these papers more desirable than others? I might be able to get a good amount for future prizes/raffles, but I don't want to invest too much in them if nobody really cares. Gotta restock the prize closet for the Dojo's Grand Reopening!

EDIT: The one below has the Demon Mask poster.

Not sure if they are worth anything or not.

That said I would love to get issues 20, 21, 22, 23, 45, 46, 47, 48 if any are available as they are the issues that have one page Usagi stories.

45, 46, 47 and 48 can be found on eBay for $27. Pretty expensive for 4 papers in my opinion.

Dear Readers,
I am looking for a 21 and 23.
"45, 46, 47 and 48 can be found on eBay for $27. Pretty expensive for 4 papers in my opinion."
I agree this seems expensive since i paid 25 cents (plus tax) for them when they first came out.
What is the true cost of selling on eBay?
Once you subtract about 13% for eBay and Paypal the seller may get $23.
Seller's costs include the original cost of acquiring the papers
+ the effort and space required to store these delicate papers for 20 years (time=money?)
+ the seller's time to list, monitor, and communicate with all kinds of buyers on eBay
+ the time to get packaging materials like a sturdy box, bubble wrap and tape, pack it up, make a shipping label and tape it shut
+ time to take the package to the post office for shipping including
(gas money, car maintenance, time spent in line, risking possible infection from random people at the post office)
+ potential time spent with dealing with inevitable USPS damages
+ time spent leaving feedback on eBay
For me the bottom line is how bad do i want the auction items?
I have skipped eating lunch many times to save the money to buy things Sensei Sakai has created.
I have paid well over what you and i would think of as reasonable for very rare items.
I am a rabid rabbit fan and i am very happy to save and pay for the additions to my collection.
I am just thinking out loud here, did i ere?
Best wishes to all.

I didn't know you still collected Usagi stuff. 8) I thought you had sold off everything years ago.

I think I have all eight, need to check, I am sure I was missing one at one stage, but may have got it without remembering.

Hi Gaffey,
"I didn't know you still collected Usagi stuff. 8) I thought you had sold off everything years ago."
Yes i still have the passion to collect things by Sensei Sakai and Moebius.
I did sell most of the redundant goodies in my collection to finance more and better guitars.
I am keen on getting the next signed hardback.
Here is a photo of a part of my collection.
Sorry to high jack this thread.
Best wishes to all.

As far as the collectability and value of the Dark Horse Extra publications.....

They are worth whatever a fan is willing to pay to acquire them. The issues with Usagi and Hellboy strips tend to be pretty difficult to find. And as far as the Usagi strips, the reprinted versions of the stories are inferior in quality to the original strip versions.

And trying to base the value of them on the original price would be like saying the value of one of the free promotional Usagi posters given away at conventions is naught, unless signed by Stan of course. (Just recently bought a second 15th Anniversary Usagi poster that was unsigned for what I thought was a great price),

Just my two cents....

At one time I had a bunch of DH Extras.... but no extra Extras.
Back then, there was no need for extras when one would suffice.
I think I got them for free. The comic shop I frequented gave them out at no charge.
At the moment, I do not recall if I still have any, or if I tossed them out or gave them away.
I need to double check if I still have any. I hope I do.
If I don't, I need all the Usagi related ones, and probably wouldn't mind having the Hellboy related issues too.
I shall check my warehouse, and report my findings.

My original post was poorly worded. I just wanted to know if you guys thought people would want the DHE papers as prizes if I spent my own money on getting a bunch of them. It doesn't matter to me if they're worth anything since they'd be given away (prizes/next year's raffle).
