I received the Silver Reuben Award for the Comic Book Division from the National Cartoonists Society this past Saturday during the online NCS Fest. The NCS was founded in 1946 and is made up of cartoonists from all media--strips, advertising, editorial cartoons, children's books, animation, as well as comic books. The Cartoonist of the Year (this year is was Lynda Barry) receives The Reuben, a huge, very heavy statue based on a cartoon by Rube Goldberg, and division winners receive Silver Reubens. This is my second win.

2020 is a crazy year but it also is a great year to be a Stan Sakai fan. It seems everyone is validating what us fans knew was true all these years: Stan’s cartooning is one of the best ever. Congratulations Stan! So happy you are being recognized again and again for your storytelling expertise. Peace, maka

That's a huge honor, Stan, congratulations especially on winning it twice now. Sad that there wasn't a special dinner for the awards that you could go to this year. My brother in law is good friends with the artist of the Heathcliff comic strip, Pete Gallagher, and he always talks about how exciting the awards are, and how many legends he's gotten to meet over the years.

That is very true. I have attended a few Reuben Weekends and that is where I first met Charles Schulz. His widow, Jeanie, even hosted Julie and me at their guest house one weekend. Another unforgettable moment was when Jack Davis called out to me, "My friend!" and gave me a big bear hug. I got to know Lynn Johnston from one of these weekends and we wound up traveling to Japan with our spouses as guests of Osamu Tezuka Studios.

Congratulations on a very much deserved award.
Now, with the Ringo Awards coming up at the end of next month, with nominations in three categories, here is hoping that you win there as well, that way we can celebrate the equivalence of a "Triple Crown" win for Stan Sakai and Usagi Yojimbo.....
(Wait a minute, when are the Ignatz Awards again?)

You're going to need more shelves to hold all your awards! Congrats, it is well deserved!
