Fantagraphics Books 1-7 Introductions

Post by Casey Burns »

Hi gang,

Over the years, I've pared down from owning every version of every single appearance of our hero, to just keeping a few choice early issues in a box and the sagas on the shelves. Oh and of course getting the Fantagraphics and Mirage runs custom bound. Okay maybe I haven't gotten rid of that much after all, now that I really think about it ... although the Dojo's own Shadowfax bought a big lot of rarities I sold right before I moved from NC to Oregon about 15 years back, and even picked them up in person while paying a visit to his brother!

Anyway, what I'm realizing is that for some reason the FB special edition omitted all of the introductions to books 1-7. Do these exist online anywhere? I'd love to re-read those sometime.

I posted transcripts of all the introductions from Book 8 through Book 31 here on the forum. For some unknown reason, i never got back to doing the Fantagraphic introductions or those from the more recent Dark Horse books.

[EDIT] I do have scans of the Fantagraphics Introductions, if you are interested....

I'd love to read the intros as well, as I own the Fanatgraphics Special Edition instead of the single trades.

Thanks so much for posting those scans. I'll give them all a read today.
And your transcription thread is ambitious, not sure how I missed that in the past. Well done, Steve.

I was so disappointed when our Concordance section was removed from the site (I think that's what it was called). I spent a decent amount of time transcribing those Letters Columns. :(

That must have been before my time here... What happened? Why was it removed? You didn't save the files? Can it be put back?

Does anyone else like to get the introductions signed? I think I'm up to 10 books for Usagi and most of my Goon Library books. My biggest regret was not getting Stan Lee to sign one. I stood in Jason Aaron's line for 2 hours and missed out on Stan's signing. Since I haven't seen Jason Aaron at any convention since it doesn't hurt as much.

I was hoping to get Mark Evanier and George Takei's signature earlier this year until the world shut down. Maybe next year.

I looked, and I didn't see anything. So I take it you didn't save any files?

 I didn't save anything. I'd transcribe the page, format it and upload it to the website.

I'll take a few pics this weekend. Some of the signatures I have are Sergio, BKV, Bunn, Simonson, Jeff Smith, Stout(?). Can't remember who else off the top of my head.
