Going to Spain

I've been invited to the International Comics Festival of Granada, taking place March 9-12, 2006.

I guess I'm makin my way south through Spain. First to the festival in Gijon in the Asturias area, then last year to Madrid in Central Spain, and now to the Andalucia region in the south. I really would like to go to Barcelona one day though.

José Luis Munuera made an Usagi sketch in a convention near Paris (2 weeks ago), he is from Granada, he is a pleasant person, he told me about Granada, it seems to be a nice place. You will surely see him. He speaks french well, i dunnot know if he speaks english too?

Wooo, you're coming again! Granada is a cool place, you can go to the beach to swim or go skiing at the Sierra Nevada ski resort wihtout having to drive much, because they're really close. On cloudless winter sunny days, you can see the Mediterranean sea from the resort (or so I've been told, I've never been there although I want to). And it's Andalucia, so you'll eat very well and have lots of fun. And you won't suffer the merciless summer heat that goes around there!

You should come to Barcelona soon, there are a few funky buildings worth visiting and great food. And the greatest amount of comic-book and general subculture geeks in Spain

I studied abroad in Granada a year ago, and was quite surprised at the number of comic book stores there as compared to where I live in Southern California. There were at least four that I could easily walk to from my apartment, not to mention news vendors selling reprint collections on the street! Here it's nearly a 20-minute drive to a comic store depending on traffic.
Aside from a few popular titles like Mortadelo y Filemon most of the comics there seemed to be American imports. In my first weeks there I bought a few collections that were serializing Spider-Man stories from the '80s to help me with my Spanish. This was something of a mistake since the first issue was almost all exposition and back-story, explaining at least a year's worth of plot-twists. It took me days to decipher the whole thing! The later issues were much more enjoyable, including Spider-Man and MJ's wedding and a few other well-known stories.
Later in my stay I bought my first forigen edition of Usagi Yojimbo, La Historia de Gen (Gen's Story) which was a great read. By then my Spanish had improved enough that I didn't have to stop and look up words or ponder verb conjugation every few panels, and the stories were great (of course).
My younger brother was a bit disapointed that he couldn't read the comic when I brought it home, though! More incentive for him to learn Español.
Granada is a beautiful city, and has some of the most vibrant graffiti art I have ever seen. I hope to return soon (Although probably not soon enough to see Stan at the show!)

Hmmm, Ok I'll have to see if my friends in Granada accept me and if I am able to go

I definnetly would go there if Stan attends even if I live in the north of Spain, as missed last time in Madrid.

Sergio (Aragones) told me that he is also going to the Granada festival. Now I'm really looking forward to it. Next to Sharon, Sergio is my favorite traveling companion.

Are you going to be in Granada all four days of the festival, Stan? I'd like to go there, but I must ask permission at job to get some hollidays.....

I should be there all days.

Hopefully, I will be there a few days more. I would like to visit Sevilla while I am there.
