UY 25th Anniversary Dojo T-Shirts

Post by Todd Shogun »

UYD Members,
For the 25th Anniversary of Usagi, I wanted to do another round of Dojo T-shirts. I have decided to do the 25-years of Usagi concept that was brought up on the Board previously. My original vision was 25 boxes or panels spread across the back of the shirt 5 tall by 5 wide....each with a different drawing of Usagi done by year from 1984 to 2009. However, I have decided instead to do a collage of sorts without any defining borders of 25 Usagis strewn out on the back of the shirt with (possibly) the Usagi logo in the center. Let me know what you think of this idea. Not sure how easy something like this will be to set up for a shirt, I'll need to talk to Nishimura-san on that.

If we're a go, I will need your help in identifying the 25 Usagis. I already have a few ideas in mind. If you have personal Usagi art by Stan of Usagi which may be appropriate for the shirt, please reply and maybe we could arrange for you to produce a clean photocopy to submit it for the design.

Thanks

Todd Shogun

Black-and-white...the Dojo t-shirts have always been a tribute to Stan's crisp B&W line work.

I am requesting 2-3 volunteers to help choose the 25 designs for the Usagi shirt. As repayment, you will receive advance copies of the t-shirts after they are produced.

The work in choosing the designs will all be done offline...I don't want the final design to appear until after the shirts are completed. So strict confidentiality must be maintained.

Let me know if you're interested!

What would be cool is to see the progress of Usagi. The evolution of him if you will as Stan's drawing style changed. Like a picture of him when he first appeared all the way to what he currently is drawn like.

without my accident i would have make an animation with old Usagi style to now, to see the evolution of the Art of Stan. Hope i will have the will and strenght to do it.

I just came back to work this week (half time to start)

I am interesting for at least 2 TShirts (one to wear one for the collection) perhaps 2 more for french Dojo fans

WEll, I liked the original idea of seeing Usagi's "growth". But you are the guy who has to make this happen, so whatever you think is the most practical.

I'd be interested in helping somehow, but otherwise, I will certainly be in line to buy one of the shirts.

I have selected: Tounian, Monkey, and Mayhem based on receiving their responses first. Gentlemen, start your engines....

I too liked the idea of an evolutionary version of the Usagis throught the 25 years, but I think it would be more difficult to find 25 images that all resemble each other enough to accomplish that effect. I can picture the collage of the 25 Usagis scattered about the back of the shirt surrounding the UY logo and that just appears better design-wise as a shirt. Plus there is another reason...can't unveil that right now though....it's a surprise or sorts.

Maybe we need some conceptual designwork?? I think the evolutionary design would actually work better as a poster. Hey there's something we've never done....hmmmmm..ideas anyone?

It was given to me about 20 years ago by a reporter who did one of my very first interviews. Unfortunately, I have forgotten his name and where it appeared.
