Stan said this in a thread on the main board:
"A bookplate, or ex-libris, is a print or label that is attached to or accompanies a book. It originally indicated the owner of the book, but now commonly is signed by the author. Some plates are "tipped in" the book, that is glued in as part of the the binding process so it is actually part of the book (like the Dark Horse HCs). Others may be glued onto a page (like the Fantagraphics HCs), or may be loose."
"It doesn't matter whom you are paired against;
your opponent is always yourself."
