tip in art
Second one!
If her expression was different in the first it would be closer but I think I would still pick the second no matter what. More color and I feel like there is more story in that picture than the first. Nice work. Can't wait till it's released.

I like both pieces, but the original one (second one) posted on Stan's LiveJournal blog is my preferred pick, possibly because it has more color but also because it seems to convey more of the emotions which their relationship, feelings, and cultural situation all seem to generate. Plus, I like Tomoe's green kimono with the clouds.

I seem to be in the minority, but I like the first one better.
Mind you, I love both.
As for book 23, I think the ending that was used in the comics should be used in the trade. BUT at the end of the story in the trade, include issue 100 and the different ending for the story so everyone could see it.
Now, Im off to go read issue 109.

Just posted some preview pages from the completely re-drawn "Tomoe's Story" from UY Book 22, along with the original pages from UY Color Special #1, for comparison purposes.
Stan says:
"I finished redrawing Tomoe's Story for UY Book 22... I did at least some altering on every panel--some very subtle like page 1, others very obvious like page 9.
I really enjoyed redrawing it. I got to really see how my work has changed over the years--even my lettering. Even the characters have changed quite a bit in 20 years."

You know...I've just realised something.
This whole changing the art of Tomoe's Story is just a ploy by Stan to force people to buy the HC and put tonnes of more of our money in his pocket!
I say we boycott this by not buying this new HC and force Stan to admit there is no real problem with the original art.
So who's with me in this honourable endeavour?

Yeah...I don't wanna do it either.
I'll order my copy soon.

But, the HC and trade paperback editions will have the same story.estee wrote:

I'm waiting for the ULTIMATE Edition so I can reprint both versions of Tomoe's Story. You'll HAVE to buy that one.

Did you say ULTIMATE edition?? Stan, you need to start scouring that garage of yours for the original art. If you need some help, let me know, I'll come by and do it for free.Stan Sakai wrote: I'm waiting for the ULTIMATE Edition so I can reprint both versions of Tomoe's Story. I started reading from the beginning (again) recently and this time I really noticed the lettering.Todd Shogun wrote:Just posted some preview pages from the completely re-drawn "Tomoe's Story" from UY Book 22, along with the original pages from UY Color Special #1, for comparison purposes.

The re-draw looks great Stan. I somehow got the impression you enjoyed it from the two sample pages Todd posted.

I really did enjoy redrawing the story. There were quite a few panels where I thought to myself, "Why did I do that?" or "That didn't make sense."morna-san wrote:

Even that first page--the title page--"Why did I place the characters so low in the panel? You can hardly see the stream."
