(Hey, first post here!) :D

Like everyone else, had a very nervewracking experience yesterday morning, but managed to get the hotel of my choice for all days within an hour (with much pushing of the refresh button). This will make my 10th SDCC and hopefully I'll be dropping by the UY table on Preview Night (assuming it's not too much of a madhouse).
Hi Bill,

You were very lucky. A friend wanted a room at the Marriott next to the Convention Center, but, after two hours and three crashes, the best he could get was on Coronado Island 5 miles away (2 miles by water taxi). And he felt lucky he got that.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes, lucky indeed, although I believe my strategy of going for the Westin SD (formerly Wyndham Emerald Plaza) first and not the closer hotels also may have been a factor in landing the deal so relatively quickly (I did have a backup hotel in Mission Valley already booked two weeks in advance just in case)... :)

Since I lucked out in 2006 by getting the Wyndham by phone after TPs online system went down, I figured why tempt fate this year? :D

All my original choices were the further away ones, but that didn't do me any good. At least the one I got was still just as far roughly (the Best Western).

If I knew I was definitely going to the next one soon after the previous one finished I would book, but often my schedule is never set enough that I have to wait for the discounts scramble...

Yus! I got my registration and (barring any trouble) a place to stay!

This will be the first time in YEARS that I'll be staying in San Diego instead of driving down daily (or even for one day).

Aaagh, and here I was assuming that the San Diego con was in July! XP

Are you also going to the July convention, Stan?
