As mentioned previously, I was at Anime Expo 2011 in Los Angeles this past 4th of July weekend, and took a quick trip to Little Tokyo for some ramen at the Daikokuya shop. The Japanese-American National Museum was on the way from the Gold Line Metro-rail station, so I was able to snap these photos:

So close, but too far...

Daikokuya is one of those places that, if you do not get there when it opens, you will have a 60-90 minute wait. We bumped into khyron82 and his friends just minutes before opening. We did not want to be rude, but we were anxious to get going, little knowing they were going to the same place we were.
I did not even notice the banner in front of the museum until after our meal, even though we had passed it on the way to the restaurant.

Sorry if we caused you some anxiety there, Sensei! And no, you were not rude at all. We didn't see you go into Daikokuya, since we had one person from Texas who had never visited L.A. nor Little Tokyo before, and we had to wait for him to shoot all the photos of the area to his heart's content (which made the two of us kinda anxious for the same reason).
Yes, Daikokuya does fill up fast if you don't get there around 11 am (sitting at the counter is the way to go). Big line of people greeted us on the way out an hour later (as well as a pair of adorable Shiba Inu dogs waiting for their masters to finish eating).

Heh, the queue was for the Daikokuya ramen restaurant if you don't get there when it opens (especially if you want a booth, instead of sitting at the counter).coolray85 wrote:thanks for the new photos!these shiba inu dogs are really nice looking;)
wait, you have to stand in queue in order to get into the restaurant or into the museum, Im confused´....what is the meal in the picture?
so, if I ever get to los angeles would you say I have to eat there?
The speciality is the Daikokuya Ramen bowl (though the other items on the menu looked tasty as well, but we never have room for those after eating one of these):

Sadly, I don't remember there ever being a queue for the Japanese-American National Museum...
